This is a battlebox I've build for quick play at the school where I work. The children are between 6 and 10 years old, and their first language isn't english (but danish). I use it both as a learning tool for new players, but also for multiplayer fun with the kids who already understand the game.
My goals were to craft an easy onboarding experience for new players to pick up, while also providing a deeper strategic level of learning for the more advanced players.
I wanted a lot of interaction and decision making, so that the children had many opportunities to learn about the stack, responses and card advantage in a natural flow state.
And finally, I wanted to keep matches relatively short, to not tire out the children before they got bored or their attention started drifting.
The list is mostly based on what I had lying around, but there are a few guidelines I tried to stick to based on prior experience and the goals of the box. I wanted to:
Because of these guidelines, our games have become a lot more about learning proper sequencing and timing, which is normally can be hard to teach to children.
