Premodern Kitchen Table Cube
Premodern (4ED-SCG) era kitchen table cube.
Core idea for the cube is to have Premodern-era (1995-2003) kitchen table feeling gameplay experience. Not including the most powerful and iconic cards but a lot of cards that you might have opened from a booster pack and played in your own deck. Cards that are just not good enough for the actual Premodern constructed decks but have interesting interactions and somewhat subpar manacost to effect/efficiency ratio.
Selected cards (especially creatures) lean more into the later part of the era as the real limited environments started to develop. However, some iconic cards like counterspell and painlands had to be included to create enjoyable and balanced limited environment. Cube contains support for Aggro, Control, Midrange and Combo with Combo being tuned down. Typical to the era, allied color pairs are more powerful. Usually decks end up heavily on 2 colors and splashing 1 more for activated abilities, kickers etc. However there is support for multicolor decks!
Cube packs are built in the following way:
- First nonbasic lands are separated from the rest
- Lairs and Quicksand are shuffled with rest of the cards
- Other 24 nonbasic lands are shuffled as their own pile
- Create 24 packs of 14 cards
- Add 1 nonbasic land from the separate pile to each pack to create 24 packs of 15 cards
- You're ready to play!
Some archetypes in the cube:
UW Fliers or Control
UB Reanimator or Control
UR Counterburn
GR Ramp or Beasts
GB Rock
White or WR Weenie
Green Ramp
5C Legacy Weapon
Mainboard Changelist+1, -1
Spiritmonger making unfun games and being too powerful and splashable. Switching it to Ebony Treefolk which is more on par with other creatures. 3/3 for 3 with a pumping ability still is good value for mana cost.
