The Arcbound Cube aims to provide an explosive, high-powered synergy environment, featuring broad artifact and +1/+1 counter themes with a focus on combat and complex decisions. This is ideally bolstered by a balance of game objects that maximize consistency and offer engine-building opportunities without becoming burdensome or overly fiddly.
The play patterns in Arcbound avoid non-interactive mechanics, i.e. protection and unblockable, as well as those that may alienate older or lapsed players, like monarch and initiative. Color pair archetypes are broader than a typical cube to allow for greater flexibility and creativity in the draft and deck construction processes and will hopefully create more scenarios that encourage novel, emergent gameplay.
Arcbound is currently 270 cards and accommodates up to 6 players. We regularly cube with 4, so this size allows for synergies to come together more consistently while still providing some variety in the draft pool. I plan to eventually design a 90 card expansion module to support 8 players.
