Mainboard Changelist+89, -89

I've been looking forward to this set, and it gave me a good excuse to purge (almost) all of the Universes Beyond cards from the cube.

I've also cut the gold cards and dual lands, just as a test. All the fixing has been replaced with a big stack of Terramorphic Expanses.

Maybeboard Changelist+103, -7

I'm very, very keen on Magic Foundations, which seems like a set that's going to be completely stuffed with designs that will be perfect for this cube.

I'm considering turning Elementary into a singleton 360 when Foundation comes, which means doubling the amount of unique cards in the cube. Even though Foundations should have 100+ new cards to choose from, I'm doubtful it'll fill all 180 of those slots on its own, so I'm preparing the maybeboard with lots of extra options for the day it comes.

After getting the chance to draft the Regular Cube for the first time, which primarily uses tapped lands in its mana base, I figured I could swap out the shocks in this cube for DMU duals.

This change should do three things:

  • Make manafixing more appealing to new players, who won't have to deal with all the words on shocklands or the prospect of losing life (gasp!) for access to mana. It's just one less choice to make in an already complicated game.
  • Trim deck colours down to two. I went into the Regular cube draft hoping to play a tri-colour deck, even if just to splash the third, but I realized very early on that the implementation of tapped lands would make that precarious for me.
  • Slash the budget of the cube. I'm normally not concerned about card prices, but it is a nice benefit.

I also happen to prefer the artwork of the DMU duals.
