Changes in this update:

  • Apocalypse Demon -> Bone Dragon
I wanted to give Crux of Fate a little more texture and black better access to a late game recurring threat.
  • Qasali Pridemage -> Glare of Subdual
Pridemage was the only source of Exalted in the cube and broadly underwhelming, and Glare of Subdual opens an interesting lane for a less aggressively tilted creature-based deck.
  • Witching Well -> You See A Guard Approach
Witching Well wasn't doing anything interesting, and flexible, 2nd-order interaction like YSAGA and the interesting decisions they create are the heart of this cube.
  • Quench & Make Disappear -> Keep Safe & Neutralize
The speed of the environment too often made the 2 mana tax on these "soft" counters into hard counters. 2cmc broadly applicable hard counters are a little too high over the intended median power of this cube. Cut in favor of higher MV/More narrow counters
  • No More Lies -> Brago, King Eternal
Same as above, and a flicker-type engine would benefit a number of strategies
  • Savage Punch -> Cartouche of Strength
A small tweak to further establish aforementioned flicker effect decks.

Mainboard Changelist+48, -48

The changes included in this update are, roughly in descending order of the quantity of card swaps the change created:

  • Change white's token to the Soldier, which allowed me to switch Ajani Goldmane for the significantly more powerful Elspeth, Sun's Champion and also get rid of the only unique token in the cube. I think this change brings White's general power level up somewhat to be more in-line with the rest of the cube.
  • Remove Thopter and Servo token producers
  • Swapping out a handful cards that were extreme power-outliers on both ends, notably Shivan Dragon, Serra Angel, and Bring to Light on the low end and Rancor and Umezawa's Jitte on the high end.
  • Minor reduction in the density of broadly applicable, cheap removal by exchanging for more narrow or more color-intensive options
  • Give Blue a distinct creature token with the Faerie.
