Removing cards with “parasitic” mechanics that appear on only a few or a single card (e.g. Monarch, Suspend, Explore, Escape, etc.).

Also, removing combo cards (e.g. Persist package): these cards have little other use, and are mainly for experienced players (which doesn't fit in with the cube's goals).

Adding a new theme around the Discard mechanic: It's a simple mechanic, but one that opens up many possibilities and synergizes well with other themes and mechanics.

Attendance: Balthazar, Ben, Eloi, Léo, Loïck, Marina, Mathias, Simon

Modality: 3 packs of 16 cards each, 3 Bo3 of 60min games - Swiss Format

Ranking:
Marina - wr Aggro Gut Token / 3-0-0
Loïck - wr Aggro / 2-1-0
Ben - wg +1/+1 Counters / 2-1-0
Léo - wrb Aggro Ephemerate & Sacrifice / 2-1-0
Balthazar - rg Gruul Stompy / 1-2-0
Eloi - ub Reanimate / 1-2-0
Mathias - uw Draw-Self-Mill / 1-2-0
Simon - bg Graveyard Value / 0-3-0

Thoughts:

  • Looks like the aggro Boros deck dominated this one. Is there too much support? Are White and Red to efficient compared to the other colours?
  • Gut, True Soul Zealot+Prava of the Steel Legion combo is nasty!
  • As last time, the graveyard themes seems to be having a hard time.
  • Blue either doesn't perform well enough or the people at our table didn't like playing blue.
  • It seems that the self-milling theme is not viable (in an environment where aggro is so dominant). Sorry Laboratory Maniac 😓
