KILL IT WITH FIRE! Not sure what I will add instead, but this terrible abomination of a card needs to be removed asap. Maybe the most broken peasant card that was printed since Sol Ring. Disgusting.
In the last two years or so I was just updating the cube each set with a few new cards, but I missed a lot of good cards and kept a lot of bad or mediocre cards. Time to trim some fat!
Too many changes to write about everything (I do this for myself to keep track of my changes anyway, I could imagine I'm talking to myself here...lol), but obviously a smaller cube with only good cards is better than a larger cube with a bunch of mediocre/niche cards. At least if you draft with 3-5 people like I do. I want to keep the cube larger than 360 so I don't draft the whole cube in a 4 player burn draft, but one additional pack of 15 cards for a total of 375 is enough.
I cut all the cards that were card number 23 at best or that were too specific to be played often enough and added a few good cards that I simply missed during the last few years.
I was never a big fan of Sentinel of the Eternal Watch. It can be very powerful if left unchecked, but it is also easy to remove before it has any effect. Beckoning Will-o'-Wisp is a creature I missed back when Baldur's Gate came out. A 2/3 flyer (on attack) with battle cry for 2W is very good and helps white weenie strategies.
Aaaand another one: Waker of Waves is great for reanimator or any midrange deck as the cantrip is (almost) good enough on its own. Phyrexian Ingester is not that useful in any deck, it's too low impact and not resilient enough as a control finisher and not that great as a reanimator target either.
Quick addition: Cititzen's Crowbar is versatile artifact/enchantment hate while Law-Rune Enforcer was only a filler as I already have Goldmeadow Harrier for that type of effect.
I think I underrated Clarion Spirit a bit when it was new and it's time to add it. One trigger is enough to make it worthwhile, two or more and it's nuts. Aven Riftwatcher was a filler for the three drop spot and now there are enough three drops, ableit barely.
Mire Triton is a good card for graveyard decks and all midrange deck in general. Oona's Prowler is very good, but I try to get rid of my 'special' rares when I can and there is no real need for it anymore so it can go.
Night Clubber is pretty good and versatile removal on a stick. Quest for the Gravelord is ok, but it's not needed for any archetype anymore as sacrifice has enough payoffs.
Electrostatic Infantry is a very good spells matter payoff if played early. Kiln Fiend is too much of a build-around card and I decided it's not worth it to have such a narrow card in the cube.
I try to enable midrange strategies in red more and while Charging Monstrosaur is often worse in aggro decks it's much better in midrange decks than Skizzik.
Amethyst Dragon was added for the same reason. It's a great midrange card that offers a lot of value. Scrapper Champion isn't needed anymore as there are plenty of good equipment matters cards in the cube now.
Streetwise Negotiator is pure power creep as it is basically an unconditional 3/3 for 2 with upside and +1/+1 counters synergy even. The Eldrazi Spawn makers are a bit outdated and there is enough ramp in green, so Nest Invader can go.
Cankerbloom is another power creeped creature. An unconditional 3/2 for 2 with a big upside? Unbelievable. Jade Mage is still a decent mana sink for the late game, but ultimately a 2/1 for 2 is bad and 3 mana for a single token is quite expensive until you are in top deck mode.
Jewel Thief is yet another power creeped creature and it's amazing that it's a common even. Kozilek's Predator was removed for the same reason as Nest Invader.
Halo Forager is a very nice value package. Doesn't stand out as an archetype signpost, which I try to put into the guild section, but it's too good to pass up and it fits into reanimator nicely as well. The time has come (again) for Psychatog and I guess this time it's for real. It's a nice card with a surprise kill effect, but it's too low impact most of the time and very mediocre as a discard outlet for reanimator as well.
Bladehold War-Whip is a great equipment matters card. A 2/2 double strike for 3 is a good deal already, the ability is very useful and the equipment may have an overcosted equip cost, but it's not useless either in a long game. Heroic Reinforcements is a very good card, but also a boring card.
Tatyova, Benthic Druid is a decent card that generates a lot of value if played early enough. But it was mostly added to get rid of Shardless Agent, which is mediocre by now and doesn't really support the big ramp I try to push in Simic. Not being able to use counterspells in blue isn't really worth it just to get a discounted 2/2.
