Enjoy! Feel free to leave feedback. ## The Cube's Philosophy and General Design This Cube is a Legacy-ish cube with no specifically imposed card restrictions other than budget and preference. It originally consisted of cards I had at the time or found interesting, but has become its own specific and streamlined project. **I update my thoughts on the future of the cube and its evolution in the blog, which is mostly there to sort my own thoughts and ideas, but also for others (and my friends/playgroup) to follow along.** I don't play that much non-Cube magic on a regular basis anymore, so the cube "lags" from time to time, but is generally in evolution. It has both **classic and modern staples for the *"I used to play these cards"* and *"I want to play these cards"*-feel**. Although it has fewer and fewer odd inclusions, I do include a fair amount of personal favourites. The Cube is currently strictly **360 cards**. This leads to making many choices and cuts, and possibly rotations from time to time. I don't want to dilute the Cube, but it is also rarely played with 8 players, so drafters have some variety and I don't feel the need to expand it. The colors are largely balanced in numbers, but not CMC or Creatures/Spells (ie. Green has more creatures than Blue). **Color identity artifacts and lands (like [[Shrine of Burning Rage]] or [[Shelldock Isle]]) counts as lands or artifacts, while cards with off-color flashback/payoff (such as [[Momentary Blink]]) don't count as multicolored**. This cheats the balance somewhat, but not much. **Hybrid mana cards and multicolor split cards count as multicolored**. **Two-colored multicolor currently isn't number balanced, with five guilds having 3, and five other having 2 cards.** The cube has a **fair amount of color fixing** in Signets, Fetches, Shock Lands, Manlands, City of Brass, and Mana Confluence. *I've found that with the draft bots, fixing disappears quickly and indiscriminately while people pick more strategically. In general, the fixing should more or less allow everyone to experiment a little with colors and archetypes - which hopefully leads to a more fun experience and consistent decks.* ## Tags The Cube has several tags and colors for book-keeping. Many cards are tagged with a descriptor of the card's function (eg. Card Draw, Artifact Removal), while others are tagged with an archetype it is especially connected to (eg. White Weenie, Fatty Cheat, KikiTwin). Some tags are a mix of these two (eg. Burn, Aggro, Reanimator). The tags don't track big archetypes like Control, Tempo, or Mid-Range, but I keep track of some of the most important Aggro cards. **Tags give an at-glance overview but don't tell the full story of the archetypes and card choices.** Some cards are colored based on their tags. *These tags are purely for cube management*: * NEW (Blue): A card recently or fairly recently added to the cube, and that hasn't been played much. Some cards will lose the status faster than others, based on performance and play. * MONITOR (Pink): A card that for various reasons needs to be monitored. Could be because it under- or overperforms, or to check synergies, but also because its usability is in question (but not so much that it's close to being cut). * UNCERTAIN (Orange): These cards are close to being cut for various reasons, or have an otherwise uncertain status. If they somehow perform well or see play or interactions with new cards, they get to stay. * OUT (Red): A card with this tag has already been decided cut but not yet replaced. Could potentially also be given placeholder cards. ## Archetypes The cube supports many archetypes and themes, most of which are somewhat straightforward and known to most cube drafters. Most cards and combo pieces you see usually have their use or place, or can be made to work with clever drafting. *There are currently no major "traps"*. Following is a **list of a few archetypes**.
