The Fetch land cycle, dual land cycle, shock land cycle, and temple cycles are in.
The Scars of Mirrodin fast lands are very good, but unfortunately we only have half the cycle. So pairing with these are the Apocalypse enemy pain lands, since they're guaranteed untapped.
I really want to try the Mirage enters tapped fetch lands. They do enter tapped, but this is a slower cube. This is another cycle that we only have the allied pairs, so it will pair up with the Innistrad check lands, which don't always enter untapped.
And for the 7th piece of fixing, it's a hodge-podge of other duals. For the most part I'm pretty happy with them. Obviously the man-lands are great, I like one Horizon Canopy style land (and this is the only one we have), I like Cascade Bluffs because of the desire to play Twin/Kiki in a heavy blue deck, and I like the two Ravnica bouncelands being green because of the Exploration/Fastbond combos. Sulfurous Springs being guaranteed untapped red and black is nice. The only two I'm not thrilled with are the Fetid Heath and Rugged Prairie, but being that the mardu colors tend to be pip intensive, it probably allows more splashing.
The card pool for my classic Vintage cube ends before Magic 2015, so every card M15 and later was removed. Also, I fixed all the versions to be original.
I like Maze's End as a dream to build towards, so adding the "choose your other color" gates plus a few others gets us up to 17 gates in the cube.
The DMU duals and KHM duals should help keep the gates for the gate player. I plan to add "basic land types matter" spells to boost them up. Also, the cube isn't singleton as it stands, but I do want to get to that point, so chopping the second set of gainlands makes sense.
Despite what I said above, I'm keeping the Temples over the surveil lands. Being able to talk about Gates, dual lands, and Temples is nice and simple.
The Diamonds are just elegant designs that are on the weaker side of playable in general, so I think they'll fit in. I like the callbacks to the Moxen, and being from Mirage originally is nice.
Sol Ring. Look. I think Sol Ring is fun in lower power cubes, like how Sol Ring was fun when people just played random junk rares in Commander. It was also in the Foundations box.
Where to go from here? Two things: Spend some time with the Foundations and Foundations Jumpstart files and look for appealing designs. Add some more Gates payoffs. Also, add Loot, the Pathfinder.
A couple thoughts:
-The demon package seemed pretty bad, I'm pretty happy those are gone.
-Happy to see Fallen Shinobi back. I know it's not what it once was, but it's still a classic and fun.
