I am still pondering to cut the Signets.... but put in borderposts instead?

So after much deliberation, the changes made were:
  • Cut Monarch
    It's a Commander mechanic, so let's not have it in a 2 player game.
  • Increased creature count
    ...Ever so slightly. I have a hard time to cut stuff, but maybe w needs a few more critters to perform more aggressively?
  • Cut the Gates
    The Gates only have Pauper payoffs in wub (and one single WR card), which are also the decks that want life gain. So one of the cycles had to go. While I love the flavor of the Guildgate lands, the "normal" CIPT lands are superior for this specific cube.
  • Add specific Land Cyclers for each color to be able to splash via the Snow Duals.
    Together with cutting one of the dual lands cycles, this should make splashing both harder (less duals) and easier (fetch a Mountain Plains Dual with your Oliphaunt.
  • Categorize the Flashback cards by the color of their Mana cost, not as "Multicolor"
    Thus the colors may seem slightly unbalanced, but this frees up some more "actual" multicolor slots. Having cards like Momentary Blink appear in the wu section while only actually playable in base w decks made a little less sense than that. I am considering to add a "Hybrid" section as well.
On the waitlist:
  • The "Blades" cycle from Alara Reborn along with some more dual-color permanents (ideally enchantments) that I do not own yet but are on the shopping list. While this isn't a huge theme, I am a Timmy for Gold cards, so there ya have it.
  • Potentially cutting the Signets
    Let's see how my minor Artifact theme plays out. But consensus in all the Discords is that you do not need them. Maybe replace them with some more sacrificable and/or artifact cards that produce Mana, such as Chromatic Sphere?
  • Cut the Cogwork Librarians, buy four more and hand out one to each drafter at the beginning of the draft?

After listening to Ubercube's Pauper Episode, some thoughts:

  • I am thinking to outright cut the Monarch machanic. I hate deaththouch, and in a two-player game the incentive to attack should be given in any case. No need to give control decks more card advantage, they'll have to work for it.
  • "Make artifacts happen"? likely doesn't work. I mean, outside of Cranial Ram and potentially Cranial Plating (which isn't Pauper legal, but that didn't keep me from including All that Glitters, did it?) and some enablers, nothing much is there. I'd rather up the Enchantment count and make Rakdos Sacrifice a bit better.
Eight player Draft.

Some players played three rounds, some four (because we're casual like that).
Didn't use the companion app - paired across the table and then rather casually by personal record.

Decks: 4-0:

1x gb Midrange with Rancor, a little reanimate for Prowling Pangolin and Ulamog's Crusher

3-0:

1x gr ramp with four mana dorks and Colossal Dreadmask
1x bwu Lifegain with two disguise cards

Rest:

1x ur Spells with bounce and Rodeo Pyromancers
1x ur Spells with cantrips for Razzle-Dazzler and a curve topping at four CC
1x bwu Reanimate / Artifacts
1x rw Boros Go-Wide
1x Pile of stuff, I guess

Notes:

There's no "fun police" mono-red deck. Needs to be remedied. Everyone just splashes red for throwing damage at oppo's face and/or removal.

  • Change some of the r direct damage spells to only target creatures.
  • Cut the number of non-creature spells in red, add more aggro critters.

Life-Gain works, it seems!

Reanimator is weak, since it only exists in bw

  • Look for ways to get more discard enablers in w

br Sacrifice is not there yet.

  • More enablers and pay-offs in b and r mid- to top-end

Artifacts are lacking.

  • Look for artifact creatures that could replace non-artifact creatures 1:1

Ramp / fixing is too widely accessible.

  • Maybe remove Signets
  • Maybe remove one cycle of lands
  • Research ways to get the Snow Duals tutored via "basic land type" or "land cycling"

Death Touch sucks.

  • Get rid of this personal disdain
  • Remove Deathtouchers
