This artifact cube is a relatively low powered cube designed all around artifacts. Each archetype is designed around interacting with artifacts to enable and pull-off a central theme. This cube is very permanent-based as such, so the average CMC is likely higher and games may move slower.
The cube is designed around the two color combinations, but due to the nature of artifacts and their synergies, there is significant opportunity to not strictly follow these archetypes and to create a deck that takes pieces from each theme.
As this is my first cube and to see the archetypes "do their thing," I am running rather light on removal and have a high density of creatures. As I see how the cube plays out, I may add more removal, traditional spells, and higher power pet artifact cards that didn't necessarily fit in the cube in its current state.
Archetype Descriptions:
WU: Affinity/Metalcraft
White-Blue is focused on getting out lots of artifacts to make affinity cards cheaper to cast and provide synergy to turn on metalcraft cards. Some of the affinity pay-offs also are improved based on the number of artifacts you control.
UB: Animating artifacts
Blue-Black is focused on animating artifacts (and pumping creatures) to get in with stronger than average creatures or to sneak in chunks of damage. This archetype takes advantage of pumping non-creatures and creatures into higher base stats, like 5/5 creatures.
BR: Sacrifice
Black-Red is focused on sacrifice and some recursion. There are a number of sacrifice outlets and fodder that benefit from being sacrificed. Most of the value in this archetype is slowly grinding down opponents with incremental damage.
RG: Punishing Artifacts
Red-Green focuses on punishing your opponents for their artifacts and benefiting from opposing artifacts.
GW: Tokens and +1/+1 counters
Green-White is focused on going wide with non-tokens as well as token based creatures. Additionally as a strategy to help push through damage, this archetype also uses +1/+1 counters.
WB: Reanimator
White-Black is focused on reanimating large, powerful artifact creatures. Getting the creatures into the graveyard can be done via milling, discarding or playing the large creatures cheaply via prototype and allowing them to die for later reanimation.
BG: Graveyard matters
Black-Green is focused on graveyard matters cards. This involves filling your graveyard to make other cards more powerful or to take advantage of the graveyard as a resource.
GU: Big artifacts
Green-Blue is focused on ramp to cast large artifacts. Simple and straightforward casting of large creatures and beating face.
UR: Noncreature artifacts
Blue-Red is the artifact take on spellslinger. Instead of instants and sorceries, most of the triggers are non-creature artifacts. This archetype benefits from payoffs mostly in the form of token making and damage from casts/ETBs of artifacts.
RW: Modular/Arcbound
Red-White is focused on the modular keyword with a focus on playing lots of artifacts and creatures to pump up your team. Losing creatures isn't a problem when you can move around the counters.
