The Pitch

Remember the good old days of kitchen table deck construction, when decks were built around trying to capitalize on how a handful of cards interact and otherwise opted to just play the best cards they could find to fill out slots? This 8-person cube intends to replicate the experience of jamming together decks held together by maybe 1-2 bombs, a little bit of synergy, and your hopes and dreams.

Collation

Keep the nonbasics separate from the rest of the cube. After portioning out what cards are to be used in the draft, randomly replace 15 of them with the nonbasics.

Rulings
  • Play companion as written. Ignore errata.
  • Nonbasics have the following errata:
    • Uncharted Haven - Ignore "~ enters the battlefield tapped."
    • All gainlands - Ignore "~ enters the battlefield tapped."
    • Evolving Wilds/Terramorphic Expanse - Now reads "t, Sacrifice ~: Search your library for a land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped." (Removed "basic" clause.)
Archetypes/Strategies

section WIP

This is designed such that mechanics and archetypes aren't locked to individual colors; however, each color has its own identity outside of that.

Color Archetypes White

Blue

Black

Aggro

Red

Land destruction

Green

Ramp and fixing

Broad Archetypes

These archetypes stretch across colors, but aren't locked to a singular color/multiple colors. Most have a low as-fan, so you're going to have to get creative with bridging them. Don't overcommmit to anything (unless you have a strong build-around)!

Card Draw

Pull ahead with card draw, and make your board stronger while doing it!

ETB Value

Why settle for getting strong ETB triggers once? Bounce and flicker triggers, getting more and more value while your opponents

Morph

Who doesn't like lies and deceit? Reveal yourself once it's too late for your opponents to stop you, or skip the line and just flicker your morphs to get efficient beaters out for free!

Self-Discard

What are you going to do with those cards anyways? Discard cards to enable graveyard synergies, and gleam value from the cards on their way out!

Cycling

Need fodder for draw and discard synergies at the same time? No problem! Sculpt your hand and bide your time until your opponents can't stop you!

Reanimator

So what are you supposed to do with all these things in your graveyard? Bring them back, of course! Reanimate choice threats and value pieces alike.

Land Destruction

Take advantage on your opponent's tenuous manabase by blowing up their fixing, then capitalize on the time it requires to recover.

Soup

Reasonable deck construction? Who needs it! Ramp and fix until you can just run all the bombs at once, and even get some payoff for doing so!

Build-arounds

Here's some of the build-around options present (because there's a lot and I don't feel like counting)

Final Remarks

This is my first cube and I had a lot of fun designing this version with friends. It's still largely untested, but the drafts I have had with it have been shockingly fun jankfests; decks with 2-2 synergy families and a couple cards bridging the gaps are commonplace. That all being said, feedback is appreciated. I'm looking to keep it as 'powerful garbage', so any suggestions (that aren't too expensive) are greatly appreciated. Contact me at sendhelpidfk#6700 if you have any.
