Have you ever just wanted to force storm every draft? Well I hope so, because in this cube that's all you can do.
Special Rules for this Cube: Drafting and Deckbuilding:Rather than drafting colors, the decks in this cube are generally defined by the type of cards they use to storm off. They are as follows
This cube is designed as a mini-game cube for players who enjoy drafting and goldfishing storm decks. As a result there is no interaction and games tend to play out in a solitaire fashion, with the competitive aspects focused on reading signals in the draft and judging the best turn to try to go off to avoid a draw or a loss. I often encourage players to approach the cube with a more cooperative mindset; to appreciate the crazy engines their opponents put together and lines they take to draw their entire deck on turn 3. I even often find players helping opponents work through their sequencing to optimize their plays.
As for gameplay, I really want to capture the tension many storm decks face when they storm off. The ongoing resource management of generating mana, using that mana to draw cards, using those cards to generate more mana, is a play pattern I adore. I want every deck in the cube to face it, even if the methods in which they generate mana and draw cards vary wildly.
As a result, I exclude any infinite or nearly infinite combos in the cube that might break that tension. No Auriok Salvagers to pair with Black Lotus. No Grinding Station to pair with Underworld Breach. I want players to generate mana and draw cards the hard, non-deterministc way. For similar reasons, I exclude cards that make it easy directly convert arbitrary amounts of mana into cards. No Brain Geyeser here.
In a recent update I took out a lot of the weaker red and black draw spells for the more powerful blue spells that had been printed in recent years. Unforunately I forgot to take into consideration that most of the rituals the Spells deck uses to produce mana make red or black mana, and on storm turns blue mana is often in short supply.
This update reintroduces some much needed red and black draw spells so the deck is less likely to have 12 red mana in the pool and three blue draw spells in hand and can't do anything.
