STEE'S UNPOWERED CUBE

This is a high-power level legacy cube designed for a mix of interactive and combo-oriented magic. Made with replayability in mind, this unpowered cube seeks to support a range of balanced decks in all colours and overarching archetypes. It has been designed to be accessible to new cubers with only a little cube experience as the list draws from many well-known and well-played sources making it a classic collection of some of the most recognisable decks in the format.

Aggro Decks

w White Weenie w

Mono-white is a deck that plans to play out cheap creatures and mana denial to set up an overwhelming presence on the board before your opponent has time to react. Some of the most powerful single-target removal in cube allows for your underpowered creatures to race against even the fast combo-oriented decks.

b Recursion b

The mono-black deck can be played straight control reanimator but also can be drafted with an aggro plan. To draft the aggro deck back up your cheap recursive creatures with hand disruption and powerful removal to swing for lethal after draining your opponent of any recourse they could use to stop you!

r Red Deck Wins r

An all in aggro deck that plans to get in with many powerful one drops before finishing off the opponent with burn. Mana denial is very useful in this plan but a turn-two ancient tomb is often too much for your opponent to overcome.

br Aristocrats br

A dynamic engine deck with a few lines to close off games. By drafting token generators, recurable creatures, sac outlets and death triggers this deck can win with blood artist effects, token pump and swing or even a combo-based finish with fiend artisan. Red black is the most aggressive version of the deck but white can be a very powerful third colour should you want to play slower with gradual token generation and more blood artist options.

wb Stax wb

Stax is a somewhat sub archetype of aristocrats that runs two sided sacrifice effects like the two Braids, Prankles and Smoke Stacks to gain an advantage. Abuse these effects with tokens, recursive creatures and death triggers but be sure to have good control and aggro sideboard options planeswalker decks and midrange token decks have very favorable match ups against the archetype.

rw Aggro rw

Red white has access to the best aggressive options in the cube making it a decent spot for new drafters. However, the deck tends to fall a bit flat without an excellent mana base as the mono red and mono white decks both find great strength in colourless lands that could mess up your early turns without access to double pipped mana.

wx Humans wx

Not unique to this cube by any means but this white-based humans deck is a secret hard hitter in the environment. With the right draw this deck is on par with the speed of mono-red but with greater synergy as scaling should the game proceed to the middle and end game.

wbr Mardu Pyromancer wbr

A fun mixup that allows you to draft non-creature spells in an aggro deck that is usually more focused on creatures. If you pick up two pyromancer effects early along with some cheap interaction this deck can stall out long enough against fast decks whilst having access to the best removal and burn you could want for longer games.

Midrange

g Ramp g

1, 3, 5, Win. The mono-green deck wants to ramp out as early as possible to land a difficult to interact with giant creature that aims to outclass every creature your opponents could be playing. Be sure to draft your elves and find some midrange monsters to keep the pressure on before your game-enders hit the board.

ub Ninjas ub

The blue-black deck has some powerful tempo plays that can be made even better by surprising your opponent with ninjutsu. Draft cheap interaction and creatures to get under control decks whilst out valuing the aggro decks early.

rg Land Recursion rg

The Gruul land recursion deck relies on careful resource management and efficient use of land destruction effects to solely grind the opponent's resources. This deck can win by supporting this with efficient creatures, a dark depths/thespian stage package or by gaining an overwhelming mana advantage with cards that double your land drops per turn such as explore.

ur Spells Matter ur

The goal of the deck is to control the game through a combination of counter spells and targeted removal, while also building card advantage through spells like Preordain and Fact or Fiction. The deck may also include creatures with prowess or other abilities that trigger off of spells being cast.

To close out the game, the deck may use direct damage spells like Fireblast or Lava Spike to deal lethal damage to the opponent, or rely on powerful finishers like Murmering Mystic or Young Pyromancer to generate a swarm of creatures that overwhelm the opponent.

gb Survival gb

The goal of the deck is to use Survival of the Fittest to find and discard creatures that synergize well with the rest of the deck. This can include creatures with powerful enter the battlefield abilities or creatures with powerful effects when they die, such as Grave Titan or Thragtusk.

To support this strategy, the deck may include other cards that provide card advantage or recursion, such as Recurring Nightmare or Eternal Witness. The deck may also include a suite of removal spells to clear the board and maintain control.

Overall, a Green and Black Survival of the Fittest deck in the Vintage Cube requires careful management of resources and a deep understanding of creature synergies to effectively create a powerful board presence and overwhelm the opponent.

gu Birthing Pod gu

The goal of the deck is to use Birthing Pod to find and sacrifice creatures that synergize well with the rest of the deck. This can include creatures with powerful enter the battlefield abilities or creatures with powerful effects when they die, such as Kogla, the Titan Ape or Acidic Slime.

To support this strategy, the deck may include a suite of creatures at various mana costs to ensure that the player has targets for Birthing Pod. The deck may also include a variety of ramp spells to accelerate the game and ensure that the player has the necessary mana to activate Birthing Pod.

rx Wildfire rx

The goal of the deck is to use Wildfire to destroy the opponent's board while also ensuring that the player has a significant advantage in lands. To support this strategy, the deck may include a variety of mana rocks and ramp spells to ensure that the player can rebuild their board more quickly than the opponent.

The deck may also include a suite of powerful creatures with high converted mana costs, such as Inferno Titan or Thundermaw Hellkite, to help close out the game after a Wildfire has resolved.

Overall, a Red Wildfire deck requires careful timing and resource management to effectively control the board and emerge victorious. It is a high-risk, high-reward strategy that requires careful planning to execute effectively.
