Signature Spellbooks were once a thing, and Oathbreaker has its Signature Spells. Now the world of Cube has its own Signature Summons!
Each player has an emblem: "Before you shuffle your deck to start the game, choose Alseid of Life's Bounty, Cloud of Faeries, Rotting Rats, Goldhound, Overgrown Arch, or Gingerbrute.
If you would draw a card, you may instead put a card with the chosen name from outside the game into your hand. Do this only once each turn."
This cube is an even more extreme exploration of the concepts of synergy and consistency behind The Eternal Scourge (where the namesake Eldrazi is flavorful filler for desert draft purposes, and players might run none, a few, some, or many.) Now all drafters are heavily incentivized to build around one of these dinky creatures, using all parts of the buffalo. And not only do the Signature Summons need not be drafted, this time they don't even need to be shuffled in and drawn naturally!
The emblem leads to some unique considerations. For example, on the play it is impossible to have a Signature Summon in hand to deploy the first turn. And since payoffs tend to be more expensive than the Signature Summons themselves, sequencing can be tricky: some decks or hands will want to deploy quickly, others will want to amass Signature Summons in hand before dumping them, and others somewhere in between. Instant cantrips are helpful to get around the "once each turn" rule!
