Concept
Colorful friendly budget cube based mostly around cards I think are fun/interesting and that jive well with our playgroup, which means a lot of specific cards that are just personal/group favorites. Really want to do some unusual stuff with this cube to give it some character, like leaning into unusual tribes and interactions. Also attempting to limit cards that feel like one-offs - mechanics that are only used for one card, tokens that only one thing produces, etc.

A lot of cross-color synergy to support 2-3 color decks. Lots of +1 counters in most archetypes.

Planeswalkers included mostly provide utility, rather than massive threats.

No infinite combos, relatively mid-to-low powered.

Budget
There is a hard limit of 5 dollars per card in this cube as it develops, starting with all/most cards being under 1 dollar.

Technically Legacy but thinking of making just modern.

Drafting Notes
Players can freely include Evolving Wilds (up to 4).
Draft packs are created fully randomly, with no separation of rarity/power.

Archetypes

  • b-g Self-mill, Reanimator
  • g-w Counters, Boosting
  • r-g Elementals, Punching Stuff
  • u-r Non-creature spells, Equipment
  • w-b Flicker, Reanimator
  • b-r Sacrifice
  • g-u Card Draw, Ramp
  • r-w Equipment, Artifacts, Boosting
  • u-b Unblockable, Control
  • w-u Artifacts, Flicker

Featured Tribes
Elementals, Pirates, Merfolk, Goblins. :)

Really want to give merfolk a little more support as an actual synergistic tribe in this cube rather than just one that is heavily featured. A bit tricky on a budget, but these seem like good changes. Monoblue was feeling kinda meh.

Similarly, I've had so much luck with elemental tribal support I can maybe tone it down a little to not totally overshadow the others.

Also had a duplicate card like a sillyhead.

Bummed to remove triad of fates (kinda a pet card) but I feel like while it gives a lot of utility, it's fiddly.

I swear i'm close to just... calling it a 400 card cube smh.
