Ravnica at War

Ravnica at War is a modular planar cube designed around the city plane of Ravnica. The major gimmick of this cube is the drafters before the draft have to choose which guilds they want to draft around, leaving half of them to be wait another time for their time to join the battle.

Each of the 10 guilds are separated into their own section along with the core being undecided. Before the draft five of the guilds are chosen to be shuffled into the card pool along with the core section to give the 360 card pool to be drafted… the rest of the guilds sit inside the leftover box waiting for another draft.

The reason I did this is to lower the amount of color combinations supported at any one draft in order to force more competition within the draft for guild pieces along with also giving every single guild plenty of individual support and space to shine.

All the cards allowed were cards depicted on Ravnica in art, this includes cards not originally printed in Ravnica sets like Mana Confluence. Some cards are to be drafted as a package where you are given extra copies of the card or have a special package tied to it such as Maze’s End giving you a single copy of every guildgate not currently in the draft pool (drafting tip: grab extra copies of each of the draft package cards and leave them separate from the rest in your storage box). These packaged cards are in the Basic Land Section for ease of showing off deck lists in the playtest feature of Cube Cobra. When constructing decks in test drafts, only add basic lands from the basic land section unless you are adding the designated cards from these packages.

Been delaying making this update for a while cause work has been killing me. There will be a part 2 to this update as I will be adding in the original Ravnica Shock lands into the format even if my future wallet is crying in expensive foils. But for the update at hand, there are 4 cards in MoM that I want to try out, adding in two cards add some extra support to the Maze's End Gate deck until I figure out more on how to improve the deck, and changing one of the package cards.

Borborygmos and Fblthp is pretty interesting to me, one hand it is a 3 color card and that is already awkward but I feel it's worth it here. It's a ton of value and a fun buildaround, as much as I don't want to add a ton of 3 color cards... between Nicol Bolas and these guys it's fine.

Invasion of Ravnica I feel is stupid good and very fun decision making. The removal portion is quite strong even if this is the weakest kind of format it'll be in with it being a nonland exile vindicate for non 2 color cards. There are plenty of mono color and colorless cards worth exiling along with the 2 build around 3c cards mentioned above. Flipping the Invasion will give a mini Niv Reborn that just storms off so could be built around somewhat. I am super excited to try this out and happy that my plane got a very strong Battle.

Wand of the Worldsoul is a speculative add, 3 mana rocks are rough but this does have good upside with giving any spell convoke. How will this play out I want to see but could see cheating in angel of serenity or helping get the ultimate mode of the finale's such as finale of glory. Could be awful but there is some spice to cook with.

Conclave Sledge-Captain is a massive bomb that I fear could be too strong, I want to see how good backup is and this is my only legal one. 6 mana is filled with bombs in RAW so this'll fit along with the others, the trigger doesn't win the game itself but could seal the game and that's what I want expensive cards to do... plus any double striker that is unblocked will one shot the opponent so maybe a combo deck emerges (explanation: if you target a double strike creature 3 times with the backup then it deals damage unblocked, you'll first strike damage triggering the backup 3 times then normal damage. Even a 1/1 will become a 4/4 then 3 triggers makes it a 16/16 and 4+16=20).

Gate support is lite for now, add a new dork in Greenside Watcher and another Gate Colossus as requested by the last player to play Maze's End that I agree with the idea.

Lastly I am nerfing Cavalcade of Calamity to only give you an extra copy. Last draft Cavalcade dominated the draft and after doing the math with the player it was nearly impossible to not have one on turn 2 with the full 3 copies. This will still make it a strong package but not unbeatable.
