Cube Design Philosophy:

The draft itself should be a fun and unique experience instead of a means to an end.
The draft should not be "on rails" but should reward synergy-based decks enough so that good-stuff piles are not the best strategy or even a particularly good one.
The goal is for each archetype to overlap enough into the archetypes that share colors so that there are "soft synergies" within decks that can be built towards during the draft. Note that I define a "soft synergy" as cards that work towards the same end goal but may not do so the same way. Ex: Tokens work well as sac fodder in aristocrats despite aristocrats not having direct token support such as intangible virtue.
Power level should be higher than any retail draft but should be low enough so that all archetypes within the cube are of a similar power level. However, individual cards should NOT all be the same power level. Role-player cards are vital, and getting those cards to wheel is part of intelligent drafting.

In order to best support flexibility within the draft and allow for archetype overlap, my archetypes are based in the shards/wedges instead of guilds. This allows for more creativity in deck-design while still supporting clear strategies. Note that archetypes within shards/wedges does NOT mean I'm aiming for decks to be 3-colored; it just means that a drafter could theoretically draft UB, UR, RB, or Grixis Artifacts since I support that in my Grixis shard.

Archetype Breakdown:

Esper: Control/Reanimator
Grixis: Artifacts
Jund: Lands-Matter (in graveyard)
Naya: Creature Stompy / Fires
Bant: Creature ETB
Jeskai: Prowess
Mardu: Aristocrats
Abzan: Counters/Persist-Combo
Sultai: Graveyard Value / Self-Mill / Reanimator
Temur: Cheat/Pod

5-color: Golos/Lands
