The Proteus cube is a bit more difficult to draft as you will likely be drafting 3-4 colors every time. Due to that fact, the archetypes can get a bit vague
and your decks may even be split between two different types of archetypes. You can always rely on the typical cube archetypes to build something pretty standard
if need be (see the Primer at the end for details).
As a quick high level overview, these are the archetypes and general game plans that the 3-5 color groupings have:
Aggro: Mardu, Temur, Jund, Naya, Yore Tiller, Saskia
Midrange: Abzan, Naya
Spells Matter: Jeskai/Temur, Ink Treader
Graveyard Matters/Reanimator: Sultai, Jund, Yore Tiller
Modificiations (Equipment, Auras, Counters): Mardu, Bant, Atraxa
Tokens/Weenie: Esper, Bant
Enchantments: Bant
Control: Esper
Combo: Esper, Yidris
5-Color Good Stuff Pile
This cube also contains 15 custom cards: 3-5 color fetchlands. They are designed in a similar fashion to the true fetches but with more versatility in land type you can grab. This is to further support the goal of drafting 3-5 colors. Because of this and due to the cost, I have ommitted traditional fetches for the time being. If you see a basic land or a fetchland in the cube list, it is a stand-in for the custom fetches (with custom art on CubeCobra).
Pod Size & Pack Size:
At 720 cards, the cube can support 2x pods of 8 players drafting 3x 15 card packs each. I typically draft this with anywhere from 4-8 people.
House Rules:
Supported clans: Mardu, Temur, Jund, Naya, Yore Tiller, Saskia
Aggro in this cube is less about playing RDW and more about playing fun creatures with the occassional burn spell. There is definitely a mono-red deck here but you'll find it's a bit tough to outlast some of the other archetypes.
All aggro decks will have some amount of red spells. Often these will be creatures and direct damage spells in your 1 and 2 mana value slots, such as the cards shown above.
What you will start to realize is that many of the red aggro creatures have something in them that supports other archetypes, so you will be best suited reinforcing them with cards from other colors. Cards like:
How to draft Aggro
Look for cards that hit hard and hit quickly. Haste is your friend, as are keywords like Menace or Unblockable. Additionally, keep an eye out for spells that deal damage directly to your opponents face. Your goal with aggro is to end the game within the first 5-6 turns, or sooner if possible.
What spicy options are there in aggro?
