This format celebrates the wild era of Magic's early expansions, with the aim of creating a playable draft format out of these sets that weren't designed for drafting. Every color brings their best to the table, which might not be much by modern standards, but it's enough to get some proper games!
There are some cards from Beta in the mix: Each pack includes an original dual land to accommodate the heavy color requirements of many of the cards and the slight ally-color theme, and the mythic rares are uncommons and rares from Beta.
Every pack also includes one random card from any of the pre-Mirage expansions, to showcase the truly weird/awesome cards that these sets contain.
There's also one snow land in every pack, but these offer only marginal benefits at best. Feel free to ignore them altogether.
This set isn't archetype-based, just like mtg's early expansions weren't, even the ones designed for draft. The closest thing to an archetype is BR's sacrifice synergy. But don't let the lack of archetypes hinder you, as there are still synergies to find and cool cards to build around!
Note: Despite the differing number of rares per color, there is color balance at rare/mythic level - the colors that have more rares/mythics just have more variety in them.
