I could lie and say that this cube was architected with a grand vision in mind, but the truth is I just started with a bunch of cards that I really like. It's my first cube so my goal here is really just to make something fun, try it out, and keep making it better.
To the folks in the Asheville MTG discord, give me some feedback but only if you're going to be nice.
Color BalanceJust gonna get this out of the way early: on its face, the cube is not perfectly color balanced. In terms of monocolored cards, quantity descends following WUBRG order: White has the most with 69 (nice!) and Green has the least with 52.
However, when you actually track the color pips (i.e. including multicolor) we get almost a perfectly even split.
Which leads me to the next point which is...
SplashabilityThe number of lands and fixing is definitely high. I want it to feel flexible, especially since it's a 540 cube and we are unlikely to see every card in every draft. So fixing will help prevent some feelsbad moments when your two-color lane looks like it's drying up. At the very least I'm hoping it helps keep feeling fresh.
On the other hand, the two-color archetypes reward synergy, so there is an incentive to stay disciplined and not just default to a 5-color soup + bombs strategy.
Speaking of...
