The boardgame Hanamikoji is a two player game which resonated with me as a Magic player; the gameplay felt to me like an aggro mirror match where I also got to play the sub-game Fact or Fiction. My goal with this bar cube is to offer four alternate card pools for the drafting structure of Hanamikoji where the draft pools end with micro games of magic with a limited deck size and limited life total.

Cube Structure
  1. Each two color guild combination has its own deck to be used in the game. Pick only one of these as a replacement and shuffle it in place of the base Hanamikoji deck.
  2. Each section has exactly 21 cards broken into seven sections by color:
    5: Lands - Color A
    4: Lands - Color B
    3: 2 CMC - Color A
    3: 2 CMC - Color B
    2: 1 CMC - Color A
    2: 3 CMC - Color B
    2: 3 CMC - Color A
Drafting Each Pack

These are the mechanics for drafting each 21 card pack.

  1. One card is burned at the beginning with nobody seeing it.
  2. Each player is dealt 6 cards from the pack.
  3. Each turn one player draws a card from the pack and takes one of four actions below. Actions can be taken in any order but only once per pack.

Actions.

  1. Pick one card secretly
  2. Burn 2 cards secretly.
  3. Reveal three cards to opponent. Opponent picks one and player keeps the other two. Cards are kept face up in front of each player.
  4. Separate 4 cards into two piles of 2 cards. Reveal piles to opponent. Opponent picks one pile and player gets the remaining pile. Cards are kept face up in front of each player.

At the end of the draft phase each player has seven revealed cards which consist of their opening hand. The hidden card is the players library and can be played hidden.

Game Modifications
  1. Neither player can lose the game from drawing from an empty library.
  2. Each player begins the game with 7 life instead of 20.
Guild Sections

w-u: Azorius - Kamigawa menagerie
u-b: Dimir - Not present in this small package but I built a scaled up version of this drafting method which spans across five packs to approximate a retail limited game experience - Dimir Rogues and Walls.
b-r: Rakdos - Party
r-g: Gruul - Do you need five mana?
g-w: Selesnya - Counters and tokens

I'm not sure if this is realistic but I want players to have incentive (a) to get to total five CMC for firebolt flashback and bronzeplate boar and (b) to get to GG flashback Mother Bear.
