Question - how do you maximise the amount of fun had at the table? Well, magic is a great game, it's really fun to win. That part's easy, not much we need to do there. Thus the highest equity thing we can do to maximise fun is to ask - can magic be fun to lose?

This cube explores the idea finding fun in as many ways as possible. The cards offer interesting synergies and suggest little in-game subgoals to achieve. What will inspire you when you open your pack?

The risk of course when designing around synergy is that the draft experience can become overly railroaded. To avoid this, the synergies are less prescriptive, and more broad. Here are just some of the overarching, overlapping themes you will find in this cube are:

  • +1/+1 counters
  • Graveyard synergies
  • Madness
  • Artifacts
  • Spells-matter
  • Tokens

All of these have crossover with one another, and are to some extent present across all five colours.

So try out something new, something unexpected, and remember - have fun!

Recently, some friends suggested drafting the cube like Commander Legends. While not designed as a commander cube, it turns out there are enough legends that this basically works. Hence, there is a playtest option to EDH draft the cube. This works like a Commander Legends draft (3 packs of 20, pick 2 at a time, make a 60 card deck including commanders, Prismatic Piper is always available), with the following differences:

  • Planeswalkers can be commanders.
  • All commanders have partner.
  • Hybrid mana contributes only one of its two colours to its colour ID (run Manamorphose in either a GW or UR deck!).
  • Phyrexian mana contributes nothing to colour ID (run Gitaxian Probe anywhere!).

These are there to make the draft smoother and give players plenty of options.
Enjoy!
