Connect the Clues [CtC]

The goal is to combine the variety of cube, flavor and synergy of limited and the consistency of constructed in one cube. Furthermore, I want to add many iconic mtg card designs and effects from magic's history in some form to the cube. For better or worse, this cube aims to have a very equal powerlevel between cards.

Clues

This cube is centered around Clues. Clues are colorless and therefore can be used by any color. It helps with flooding and keeping the game interesting as it goes on. Clues can be used to create/enhance effects in every color. Works well with artifact, card draw and sacrifice synergies.

Archetypes

Some archetypes the cube has are clues, spells matter, lands-in-graveyard, mill, card-draw and artifacts. Other archetypes I am experimenting with are Dragons, equipment, +1/+1 counters/proliferate, planeswalkers, manifest, double strike, sacrifice, self-mill/dredge, self-discard/hellbent and storm.

Story

Below is a description of the story I want to work towards in this cube set.

Last Stand of Tarkir [LST]
In the besieged city of Havenreach, the last bastion of hope on the embattled plane of Tarkir, a coalition of citizens stands united against the relentless onslaught of dragon tempests, as refugees from all corners of Tarkir seek shelter within its walls.

Custom cards

The majority of the cube consists of modified and custom mtg cards. Some made by myself, others designed or inspired from r/custommagic, planesculptors.net, revolution custom standard and other sources. I have added the sources for the design and art in the notes of each custom card. Original mtg art and names on custom cards will be changed in the future.

Oracle changes
  • The phrases like "Discard a card. If you do, draw a card." are replaced with "Discard a card to draw a card". This phrase is also used in the reminder text of the Learn ability, see Igneous Inspiration.

  • Proliferate is changed to Proliferate N, where N is the number of permanents and/or players you can choose instead of any permanent and/or player. Example: Proliferate 3. (You choose up to three permanents and/or players with counters on them, then give each another counter of a kind already there.)

Tags 180..540 (I have currently removed all cards/tags above 360)

Since the cube has grown in size, I have decided to reiterate on all cards from the bottom up. Starting with the tag 180, I have build a smaller more focused version of the cube for four players. With the tags 270, 360 and up I add 90 cards each time to add more archetypes while trying to keep focus and balance in the cube. This way cutting cards is also easier as I can just demote a card to a higher tag! The cube size I play with in paper is the 180 and 360 cube.

History

I started this cube in 2019. This cube started out as a collection of custom cards I liked from r/custommagic. Since then, I have continuously refined this cube with original and custom mtg cards.
