Quarantine sucks and I miss my lgs.

About This Cube:

While stuck at home, I needed something to do. I took out my old boxes of draft chaff, and like many of us, threw together a complete garbage fire. With the help of others, I've managed to slowly get it into a little bit better of a place.

Budget:

I'm really not looking to spend more than a few dollars on any given card, lands probably excluded. There are some heavy hitters already here (looking at you, Ugene), but those are just from lucky pulls.

Design Philosophy:

My goal is to keep this around a Strix 5-6 N, though due to budget/availability this might fluctuate. We'll see what happens.

In building this cube, I’ve taken the advice of some more experienced builders and just focused on macro-archetypes. I’ve prioritized core mechanics of the colors, such as white tokens, black discard, etc. so as to keep it relatively easy, though there should be enough options in here for players to go deep on multicolored decks as well. I’ve been trying to fight parasitism in archetypes such as reanimator by including multi-archetype dudes such as that new kicker reanimator guy, as well as keeping fast mana and degenerate combos to a minimum.

Problems:

  • ~~Games are going long. I’m playing mostly against myself because of the quarantine, so I don’t have a good reference, but I’ve found games go waaaaay too long. ~~
More or less resolved: aggro has been doing a bit better, and games are roughly sub-turn 10, which is better than the near-decking I was seeing earlier. I'll keep monitoring to be safe.

  • I want to go deeper on synergies. I've been on the playing side of cubes recently, and I love finding interactions between cards that weren't what I intended, but showed up anyways. Nightpack Ambusher and Wolfbriar Elemental is a classic example of two cards that are good on their own, but go nicely together. One thing in particular that I've found fun is the ETBs that Thassa, Deep-Dweller allows, which I might explore to help go deeper here.
