Special Rules

Each player begins the game with an Emblem that says:

Creatures you control are every creature type. The same is true for creature spells you control and creature cards you own that aren’t on the battlefield.

Overview

When all creatures are all creature types, things can get weird. This cube fully leans into the weirdness and aims to showcase some creature-focused combos that don't work anywhere else (or require too much setup to be worth it).

Combos are by no means required for a 3-0 deck. Pressure + disruption is a winning formula. Control decks are less common, and often rely on cheating in a powerful creature to swing a board state.

This is a powerful, fast format. Most decks are very low curving, and you can rarely afford to take the early turns off. You'll need interaction or ramp if you want to cast your 5-drop.

The fixing in the cube favors two-color decks, or two colors with a splash. There are multiple lands that fix mana for creatures only, so it is easier to splash creatures than non-creatures.

Singleton Breaks

This cube has 4 copies of Secluded Courtyard.

The following creatures also have multiple copies:

Notable Card Inclusions

This cube welcomes a few silver-border / acorn / playtest cards (there is no dice rolling).

Notable Card Exclusions

This cube does not contain any:

  • non-creature cards that have a creature type
  • double-faced cards
  • cards that remove creature types
Rules Notes and Card Tips

A creature can only count as one towards your party, no matter how many creature types it has.

Some cards in the cube require you to choose a creature type. In most other contexts for these cards, you easily know which creature type to pick every time. Here, we encourage you to explore all your options! In the Magic Comprehensive Rules 205.3m, the full list of creature types as of September 20 2024 is:

Just wanted to say really loved this, I've been using it as a great way to teach my friends the basics and the intricacies.

Stingblade Assassin from WOE is a stirckly better Manticore. Do you think it's a good idea to replace it?

Also want to say thank you! I’ve built this exact list and have never had more fun than this playing mtg. Captured the whole kitchen/old school vibes of playing. I do hope you continue to update this so I can update as well! Thanks again and keep it up!
