Cloned from The Original Old Border Cube (CubeCon 2024)
Cloned from The Original Old Border Cube. Check that out and follow it for the most up-to-date version. This version of the cube is for the main event in CubeCon 2024.
The Original Old-Bordered Cube featuring cards from Alpha to Scourge. It is all about recreating the gameplay of old with classic archetypes and fun interactions. It aims to offer a wide-range of decks between simple and complex to allow someone of any skill level to enjoy drafting.
GameplayColor archetypes and key roles:
- White Weenie, Enchantress, Reanimator, evasive threats, board control
The cube is usually drafted in pods of 6-8 players with the standard 3 packs of 15. I collate the packs by color with 2 cards of each color, 1 multicolor, 2 artifact, and 2 land. I've been doing it this way for a couple years now and highly recommend it for cubes that can support it.
Card ChoicesIt is mostly original true old-border cards from Alpha to Scourge, but has a sprinkling of the new retro-border cards. I keep them to a minimum to fill roles (like Mesa Enchantress) and make sure they feel of the era (Tourach, Dread Cantor fits well, not so much with Yawgmoth, Thran Physician).
Cards play as printed, so for example Orcish Artillery cost just .
The wishes (see Burning Wish) get any card in your sideboard or left in the cube. We ask players to construct their wish board before play to save time.
HistoryI've had this cube for about ten years now. My box of 'maybes' is twice as big as the cube now. Here is the earliest list of the full cube I can find that I posted - https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/the-cube-forum/cube-lists/703016-400-powered-classic-fishys-classic-cube (ported it to Cube Cobra https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/4e18a871-07fa-4822-bac9-d0027dc7979e).
RulesPlays with the sixth edition game rules. The only exception is the modern mulligan rule. The major difference between the sixth ed. and modern ruleset is that damage goes on the stack, but there are some other small ones like mana burn, lifelink/deathtouch stacking and beginning of eot (notably White Ball Lightning and Thawing Glaciers).
