Rules

Draft 2 packs of cards with stickers already on them from previous drafts. After pack 2 get a sleeve of random stickers. After the sticker pack, you will draft a third pack of cards. Once all 3 packs are drafted, you will place 10 of your 15 stickers, then play games as normal!

Stickers

The type of stickers in your packs will not be randomized. You will receive 3 stickers with symbols (tap symbol, untap symbol, hybrid mana symbols, phyrexian mana symbols), 7 stickers with keywords on them, five A stickers, and five B stickers. A and B stickers count as one sticker for all purposes. You can see a list of all potential stickers and their probability of showing up in a pack here.

Types of Stickers
A/B stickers

A/B stickers are called that because they are used together (an A sticker and a B sticker, in that order) to give a permanent card an ability.

Keyword stickers

Keyword stickers are mostly taken from existing keywords in Magic, with a few exceptions that somehow aren't keywords yet:

  • Blink - exile another target nonland permanent, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control
  • Bounce - return another target nonland permanent to its owner's hand.
  • Curious - when this permanent deals damage to a player, draw a card.
  • Loot - draw a card, then discard a card.
  • Make treasure - create a tapped treasure token.
  • Paradise - t : add one mana of any color.
  • Pinger - t : this permanent deals 1 damage to any target.

When keyword stickers are placed on permanents in a way that doesn't make sense (e.g. scry 2 on a creature), that keyword is treated as an enter the battlefield ability. Toxic is always equal to the power of the creature.

Symbol stickers

Symbol stickers contain the tap symbol, untap symbol, all 10 hybrid mana symbols, and all 5 phyrexian symbols.

Placing Stickers
Rules for placing stickers:
  1. Phyrexian and hybrid mana symbols can only be placed on top of mana symbols of a matching color (so you can place a r-b on a r or a u-p on a u but you cannot place a r-g on a w or a u-p on a b). Symbol stickers may not be placed on top of each other.

  2. Tap/untap stickers may only be used to replace a generic mana cost in an existing ability.

  3. Keyword symbols can be placed only in appropriate places, as determined by their formatting. Stickers in italics may only be placed on instant or sorcery cards. Stickers in bold may only be placed on permanent cards. Stickers without formatting can be placed on any card. A/B cards are underlined and can only be placed next to each other.

  4. The A sticker with the text "and" can only be placed on a card in a place that makes grammatical sense. "and" must replace a period at the end of a sentence and must be followed by a B sticker. For example, you can use an "and" on spirited companion. Let's say we have "and" and the B sticker "investigate." Now spirited companion says "When ~ enters the battlefield, draw a card and investigate." "and" stickers can never replace periods at the end of mana abilities.

  5. Lands can not be given activated abilities. It bears repeating that "and" stickers cannot be added onto mana abilities.

  6. To add a second sticker to a card, all of the cards in your pool must already have a sticker. To add a third sticker to a card, all of the cards in your pool must already have two stickers. Cards may never have more than three stickers.

  7. When you 3-0, all cards in your pool with 3 stickers (and all cards that the pod unanimously agree upon) will be retired into the Hall of Fame, and will be replaced with a blank card.

  8. When you 0-3, if you would like, your last round opponent may look through your pool and pick out your worst card. You can add any one sticker of your choice to that card, and you can place it as if all cards in your pool have 3 stickers already.

Themes

Themes are fairly loose right now, but you will find aggro, sacrifice, blink, storm, enchantments/auras, artifacts/affinity. I would not be surprised if there's also a combo archetype after the first couple of drafts

Alternate Cost Keywords

Keywords that change the cost of the ability will always work in the same way.

Mana value minus one generic
  • Blitz costs will always be the mana value minus one generic.
  • Dash costs will always be the mana value minus one generic.
  • Retrace costs will always be the mana value minus one generic.
Mana value minus two generic
  • Evoke costs will always be the mana value minus two generic.
  • Spectacle costs will always be the mana value minus two generic.
Mana value minus all generic (just colored pips)
  • Echo costs will always be the mana value minus any generic.
  • Madness costs will always be the mana value minus any generic.
Mana value of the card
  • Flashback costs will always be the mana value of the card.
  • Escape costs will always be the mana value of the card and exiling three other cards from your graveyard.
Other costs
  • Embalm costs will always be four generic.
  • Suspend is templated as Suspend [N] -- [cost]. The N is equal to the generic mana in the casting cost. The cost to suspend the card is equal to the colored pips in the casting cost. So a card like Sloppity Bilepiper has Suspend 3 - b. Note: suspend does not remove the mana cost of the card, and as such, the may be played for its normal costs. Cards with suspend stickers cannot be cast off of cascade for their suspend cost.
