Welcome to the Tiny Leaders Nano Cube!

Overview

This cube was built as part of this Riptide Labs Contest
For this contest, the nano cube needs
-Exactly 72 cards
-Minimum deck size of 15
-No custom rules or custom cards*

How to Play

This cube is meant for 2-4 players to draft 18 cards, to build 15 card decks from. It's built with Commander-adjacent gameplay in mind but is also fully functional to play without a command zone. If playing as a Tiny Leaders cube, then take a look below at the custom rules section to make it functional.

Philosophy

Given these restrictions, my first thought was that decks would need to be aggressive. If the decks are going to be limited to 15 cards* (more on that later) then the games need to finish quickly. Not only that, but with 4-6 lands total in any given deck there is a finite restriction on how expensive a single spell could even get. Given that, and also the meme-infested brain dancing in my head, I immediately thought of Tiny Leaders, and started building from there.

Custom Rules*

One of the tenants of the contest is no custom rules, and if you're playing this simply as a draft environment none are necessary. But, playing this cube as a Tiny Leaders cube, a couple of rules had to be bent to make it functional.

  1. Deck size of 15 is enforced. Keeping in line with how Tiny Leaders works, deck sizes are consistent. Decks, including any commanders are limited to exactly 15 cards.
  2. Mono-Color legends have Partner. Again, another concession to the Tiny Leaders format, this cube couldn't really exist without it. Color identity is such a restricting concept that if you tried to draft without this rule you would likely not have enough legal playables to fill out your deck.
Archetypes

There are a few macro-archetypes in this cube, but the major mechanics needed to be highlighted by the possible commanders. Let them guide you while drafting and deckbuilding this environment.

Legendary

As this is a nano cube that needed a density of legendary creatures to function, legendary-matters became an early theme across the cube. Kethis is your general with Yoshimaru his best friend.

Modified

This is a cube-spanning theme that plays differently depending on the color. Look toward counters, auras and equipment being invaluable in this cube, as being able to go over the top of your opponent could determine the winner. Danitha, Legolas, Goro-Goro, and Danitha will all help progress your game plan.

Kindred

In a cube this small, it doesn't take much to support multiple kindred types. Metallic Mimic is the glue to make it happen, and look toward Humans, Goblins, Zombies and Elves as the types to draft.

Recursion

Playing things once may not be enough to get the job done, especially with decks this small. Therefore every color has access to some form of recursion in their color-specific way to make it happen. MVP of this section is Elixer of Immortality.

Mill

Of course, given every deck is limited to 15, mill will be inevitable. Help it along with Stream of Thought.
