Westley : No, no. We have already succeeded. I mean, what are the three terrors of the Fire Swamp? One, the flame spurt - no problem. There's a popping sound preceding each; we can avoid that. Two, the lightning sand, which you were clever enough to discover what that looks like, so in the future we can avoid that too.
Buttercup : Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s?
Westley : Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist.
[Immediately, an R.O.U.S. attacks him]
The Fire Swamp is a Jund cube (mostly) where everything is trying to kill you all of the time from your mana base to your kill spells to even your own creatures.
FEEL THE PAIN!
This is a semi-desert cube, which means there are only swamps in the land box so draft your color sources well. YES, there are a few blue and white pips in the cube. These odd colors are for cards and effects that should be power outliers or key cards for certain decks, but they are few and far between. Stay on your toes because your expectations will be subverted.
The Fire Swamp is mostly an old-school, old-border experience, but there are cards from all ages of Magic that fit the flavor and play-style of the environment. Card evaluation can be very skill-testing as you weigh the upsides of the cards against the many downsides throughout. Good luck!
