This highly experimental cube is designed to evolve each time it is drafted. Each player brings one booster pack to add to the cube, and leaves with prize cards that subtract from it. Small, targeted changes are made between drafts to maintain balance.
Player PacksEach player brings either a sealed draft or play booster pack from any Magic: The Gathering set, or their own selection of 15 cards. Players are encouraged to bring cards that align mechanically with the event's "Theme Cards" - a collection of cards, one of each color, which has been pulled from a subset of cards in the cube that have been designated as potential theme cards.
With 420 packs of cards in the cube and 120 more brought by players, 180 cards will not be used each draft. Packs brought by players will ALWAYS be drafted.
PrizesPrize support is essential for maintaining consistent cube size.
After prizes, each player has the opportunity to "veto" a card in the cube, and nominate one card as a "theme card". A vetoed card is removed from the cube and added to a prize pool for the next event. A card nominated as a theme card is added to the pool of prospective theme cards for future events. A nominated monocolored card may have a supporting color noted - it will count as a theme card for both colors.
Reconstituting The CubeAt this point, the cube will be about 20-30 cards short from where it started. Its keeper will restore it to 420 cards, with a focus on maintaining balance - ex. if a draft leaves the cube with a shortage of red cards, the cube's keeper will add mostly red cards. The champion(s) of the most recent event are encouraged to assist in this card selection process. Cards added this way may be designated as prospective theme cards.
