Introduction

Up to 6 players draft a more powerful and condensed version of March of the Machine limited. Pack design imitates the original draft boosters but rebalances the carddistribution.

Design focus

  • cut overpowered cards and unplayable chaff
  • balance mana curve in each color
  • support playable archetypes
  • no multiverse legends, more main-set rares instead
  • no aftermath cards
  • up to 3 copies of commons
  • not all commons are featured but I focused on the more playable commons
  • fewer unbeatable S-Tier bombs like most praetors
  • less prince, more pauper

Gameplay feels more like block constructed decks rather than the original draft format. Commons are still valuable, you just have more reliable access to uncommons and rares.

Rules / Booster setup

Commons have up to three copies, everything else is singleton.

Each player receives 3 packs of 15 cards, containing:

Pack 1
10C, 3U, 2R
Pack 2
10C, 3U, 2R
Pack 3
10C, 3U, 2R

Archetypes

wu: Knights
ub: Graveyard Control
br: Sacrifice
rg: Battles
gw: +1/+1 Counters
wb: Phyrexians
ur: Convoke
bg: Incubate
rw: Backup
gu: Transform

A Classic Set, Remade (Design Goals)

β€’ πŸ’Ž Embellish a piece of magic's booster history.
--> keep as much of the original format intact while creating a more modern, deep and varied limited environment

β€’ βš–οΈ Balance trumps pure nostalgia.
--> rebalance card distribution, rarity and, in some cases, oracle text
--> nerf overpowered bombs and cut unplayable draft-chaff
--> balance the mana curve of each color and further support archetype synergies to make any color-combination fun and playable.

β€’ πŸƒ Make flavorful additions from other releases that fit the set's themes, art and mechanics.
--> Special Guest or Bonus-Sheet type of inserts that create extra variance and surprise veteran drafters.

β€’ πŸ’ͺ🏼 Gameplay feels more like block constructed decks rather than the original booster-draft format as decks are generally more powerful.
--> Commons are still valuable, decks are just more synergistic and reliable (fixing, mana curve)

β€’ πŸ’Έ Small & Affordable
--> Easy assembly, low barrier to entry
