Welcome to Ancient Idolatries! This cube attempts to harness the power of game-warping permanents from the early days of Magic up through today. All manner of stax pieces, rule-setters, and Lovecraftian monsters abound. Planeswalkers are few and far-between, primarily meant to facilitate certain archetypes rather than be generic value engines.
Gameplay is meant to be more of an emulation of actual Vintage and Legacy -- with a touch of "Old School." Shops/big colorless, Dredge, Oath, Storm, Stax/Hatebears, and various combos available.
This cube is mostly unpowered (with the exception of Timetwister) but contains all other broken fast mana. The curve is extremely low, with most cards being free, one, or two mana.
Some Restrictions and Guidelines
The complexity and board-oriented nature of many of the old cards in this cube led me to try to avoid external tracking mechanisms. Some cards and mechanics that you may expect on power level -- such as standout Monarch, Initiative, Day/Night, City's Blessing, and MDFCs -- have mostly been excluded.
I also tried to cut one-card win conditions and bombs, especially gold bombs. Drafters are encouraged to build synergistic, asymmetrical decks full of cards which restrict their opponents' gameplans without hurting their own. For instance, a strong White deck doesn't have access to Stoneforge, White Plume Adventurer, or Elspeth, but can use flyers with Moat or taxes on non-creature and non-artifact spells to hamper their opponent.
Mana Fixing and Land Modifcations:
Double fetches, triple shocks, and 10 triomes are present in the cube, providing a high degree of fixing. Therefore archetypes are not bound too strictly to a color, encouraging novel deck construction.
