[360] Card Base Cube Optimized for [4] players.
Legacy+ Card Pool. No Ban List. Of the Power Nine, only the cycle of [5] Moxen are included in the Cube.
Maybeboard consists of an additional [20] cards which are drafted after the initial pool. Here only is Singleton broken to allow for an additional cycle of Fetches; the remaining [10] cards are the complete cycle of Guild Signets.
Packs of [5] are made from these [20] cards, resulting in [4] additional cards per Drafter. The fifth card in each pack is discarded. Smooth mana, acceleration, and various archetype support are the conceit with this approach.
Snow Basics are provided for the land base [i.e. do not require Draft Picks].
Consistent and powerful decks can be built to embrace a variety of both distinct and overlapping strategies, whether in Draft or Sealed environments.
In this Cube traditional color identities, their historically attendant spell focus and abilities, and resulting synergies are built on this overarching thematic concept: I want my drafters to be able to sculpt powerful, low to the ground decks that produce interactive and dynamic play patterns whether their focus is on aggressive, controlling, or combo strategies.
Emphasis is on 1-2 color decks with splash possibilities. While clearly defined and established archetypes exist, so too does the possibility for overlap of desirable cards across a variety of build styles.
Card pool has taken inspiration from MTGO Legacy and Vintage Cubes. Structure and constraint also hinges on maintaining an even color distribution and the viability of drafting any color in a mono color strategy. Ideal environment is subjective, but here striving for Magic the way Garfield intended, spiced with the odd card that breaks the color pie, etc. Aggro and Control can be achieved with a variety of established strategies, and ideally through creative confluence by the Drafter.
Combo focuses on the powerful but fragile [i.e. Storm and Reanimator]. Degenerate turns in these strategies are meant to be viable but not dominant.
Kiki-Jiki is there, but not Twin. Pestermite is there, but not Deceiver Exarch. While going infinite is attainable, neither Kiki [in concert with Restoration Angel or Zealous Conscripts] nor Pestermite [e.g. in UB Faeries or Rogue Tempo] rely solely on the traditional complimenting combo piece to be viable cards on their own in the Cube.
In paper, the LUG LUC is built as here detailed: rife with a mix of alternate art, original printings, promotional editions, rare editions, and foils. I hope to foster feelings of wonder, surprise, history, and delight for folks as they are cracking these packs.
