Travel Back To The 90's

You're in your parents' basement, where the walls have wood paneling and your sibling is about to fire up the Super Nintendo while the glow of your boxy CRT television shows images of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Meanwhile, your buddies are coming over to borrow your Alice In Chains cassette tape, and more importantly, to show you a weird new card game. You've heard some people talk about it at school; "It's like Dungeons & Dragons", "You can play as a wizard" and "You can summon demons". It's all so mysterious, until your friends arrive to show you their card collections, all with awesome fantasy-style artwork and battle-scars from being played on the playground blacktop.

Oldschool 93/94

Magic: The Gathering has been around for a long time, and some people think that its peak had always been at its inception, and many of Magic's greatest cards that are still played today were originally printed in some of the game's first original sets.
Oldschool 93/94 is a Magic format that uses Magic's original sets and rules that were released during the years of 1993-1994. There are many different variations of this format depending on whomever is hosting the event, but the Oldschool format always focuses on playing Magic the way it was originally intended, and it is meant to help preserve Magic's incredible history, whilst bringing its players a nostalgic and competitive experience.
This cube is built to simulate how Magic used to be played, and what it was originally meant to be.

Special Rules

This cube contains cards from the sets Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, The Dark, and Fallen Empires. The majority of the rules for this cube are the same for modern Magic, with these distinct exceptions:

1. Mana Burn

You lose 1 life for each unspent mana in your mana pool at the end of every phase.
Mana Burn has long been phased out of modern Magic, but was once a long running rule that was meant to punish players who could mass produce mana early in a turn in the attempt of holding it until casting a spell late in their turn.

2. Ante bets occur at the beginning of every game

Ante is a game mechanic that has long been abandoned, and for good reason. No one should gamble with their cards. And although ante is also banned in the Oldschool format, a cube format is a good setting for fake ante.
When a player plays for ante, they play for keeps. Fortunately in a cube draft setting, all cards drafted are returned back into the cube by the end of all play.
When playing this cube, both players will reveal the top card of their libraries and set them aside until the game is over, and the winner may keep the ante card and put it in their deck for future matches, whereas the loser must replace that card with another card they had drafted or a basic land.
I wanted to preserve the ante rules, as ante was an original design aspect of Magic that was meant to keep certain cards in circulation, and the cube's fake ante would mimic this game mechanic and make for a semi-historical-accurate experience.
