The French Vanilla Cube was the first cube that I ever sleeved up, and it focused on creatures with French Vanilla abilities that had reminder text. The Deciduous Cube was what I originally considered to be the follow up to the French Vanilla Cube, as it still had lots of french vanilla creatures, only now without the requirement of reminder text, but also with mechanics that had been prevalent throughout Magic's history, such as cycling, kicker, and morph. It also had a light theme on modal cards (Decide-uous, geddit?) and drawing/discarding cards. Lastly, I used it to introduce the key parts of Magic that were too complex for the French Vanilla Cube.

Part of the fun of cube for me is categorizing cards, usually by complexity and archetype, and I noticed that there were a number of beginner-friendly cards that didn’t quite have a home in either the French Vanilla Cube or the Deciduous Cube. Many french vanilla cards would have found a home in the French Vanilla Cube if they had reminder text, and there were also cards that were too complex for the French Vanilla Cube yet also not complex enough for the Deciduous Cube. The Deciduous Cube’s card pool got a huge boost from Ikoria and Zendikar Rising, which had cycling, kicker, and evergreen keyword-matters. I made the decision to make the Deciduous Cube more synergy-based by leaning into cycling, kicker, and morph by cutting the French vanilla creatures, which became the germ of the Evergreen Cube.

Cards from Deciduous Cube:
-French Vanilla
-Converted Mana Cost
-Sacrifice
-Cantrips
