An extremely budget cube featuring some of the most underappreciated sets from Magic's golden years. The art direction of Mirage and Visions was beautiful, Weatherlight laid story foundations for decades to come, and Tempest block marked a return to form in terms of power level.
This two-year block of sets happened during a critical time in Mtg history. Mirage block took risks by departing with the classical fantasy settings we had come to expect, and those risks paid off big, with one of the most well-designed and aesthetically incredible blocks in the history of the game to this day. A year later, Tempest block would signal even more of a departure from traditional fantasy themes, as Wizards would, for the first time, completely invent their own fantasy world and story rather than borrowing from other fantasy settings and tropes. This, too, would pay off huge, resulting in a setting that many of us hold dear because it was unlike any other fantasy setting we'd ever encountered, with a story and characters that were entirely its' own.
