This cube is inspired by - but not limited to - the look and feel of Magic from the times I first started playing, which was
around Urza Block. It also tries to achieve a balance where some of my pet cards and strategies, which might never have really
made it elsewhere, would be viable. For example I've always loved the flavor of Haakon, Stromgald Scourge :)
One of my goals is to enable powerful engines, but tone down the actual payoffs. For example there are Mana Vault and Tinker, but the targets are not as backbreaking as in many other Cubes. I feel that this enforces more sweet deck-building and still leaves room for grindier games.
For this goal I've also excluded all the planeswalkers. Those tend to be one-card "I win" -battleships that require no support from the rest of the deck to be good. I want to decide to pick Fact or Fiction rather than auto-pick JTMS.
From aesthetic point of view I try to collect old/original versions of the cards where possible and within a reasonable budget. I also try to enforce the traditional themes of the colors, like necromancy for black, fire for red etc. This is showcased also in the chosen creature types, where I favor the traditional fantasy tropes.
