A cube made, as the name implies, based on the KLD-M19 standard, which was when I began playing magic, and was my first ever standard set.

Being based on a standard environment created some challenges. First and foremost, that there really aren't 360 fun, unique, powerful cards in any given rotation. So, we had to include some duplicates. That alone makes some cube-lovers bristle. But hey, cube lovers and standard lovers don't have much overlap, we had to make concessions somewhere. It was either include duplicates or include cards that are simply draft chaff, both of which are bad for a cube. I think having unplayable cards is worse, so duplicates was the choice.

The next is that this standard, like many standards, was dominated by a few powerful decks. We wanted to include them, and make them viable, but we had to make sure they didn't take over the cube. That meant choosing duplicates very carefully. The two main offenders from this standard were monored aggro and temur energy. So, we had to be very careful when putting in any duplicates that could be included in those strategies, as they could easily run away with the format if we weren't careful.

I think we've ended up in a decent spot now, but, like any cube, there's still some tinkering to be done to help find perfection.
