Sequence Cube Design Goals

The aim of the sequence cube is to provide a draft environment with room for exploration and creative deckbuild approaches through overlapping low-density synergies that promotes tense decision-rich games centered around synergistic interactions rather than card quality and well-tuned mana curves. It embraces a certain degree of variance to promote excitement at the cost of some traditional competitive values, and assumes a certain level of competency in order to fully enjoy the environment.

Draft Archetypes

The cube is not designed around concrete deck archetypes, but instead attempts to encourage a general style of gameplay that discourages accruing value and efficient mana curves, instead emphasizing proper sequencing, card timing, and synergistic interactions. Decks like straight RDW, UW Control or Jund are difficult to assemble, and it's easier to approach the cube through the lens of making different shades of tempo decks or exploiting a powerful synergy, the latter of which might be difficult to discover on a first attempt.

Custom Rules

The Companion mechanic plays as originally designed.
