THE SHOCK CUBE
Welcome to The Shock Cube, a primarily two player Jeskai cube with modified rules to create tight, fast, & interactive games of magic.
Rule Adjustments:
- Player's starting life total is 2.
- The minimum deck size is 25.
- Any action a player takes that would cause the game to draw instead causes them to lose.
- Players may only choose from Plains, Islands, & Mountains when adding basics to their deck after the draft.
Gameplay:
The cube is meant to played as a two player experience. The recommended draft format is a modified Pancake Draft which is, for this cube, 5 packs of 10. Each of the five packs is drafted as such:
- Pick 1
- Burn 1
- Pass
- Pick 3
- Burn 1
- Pass
- Pick 2
- Burn 2
Players then build decks (hidden from each other is recommended) and play a best of five match with side boarding after game 1.
Cube Design Choices:
- Creatures able to attack with any amount of power are intentionally difficult to put on board.
- Many "low power" cards are included or excluded as the format re-contextualizes card evaluation. For example: Shock is incredibly overpowered and banned (hence the cube's name), and Vault Skirge is completely overpowered but initially uncastable making it a build around.
- The goal of the cube is to foster player creativity with in an environment that is ripe with combo potential as well as the interaction to stop it.
