WIP. Just something I've been toying with in my head, each two-colour theme is based loosely on a faction or area of middle earth. They are as follows:

  • wb - Gondor- human/soldier tribal, control, sacrifice

  • wg - Rohan - human/knight tribal, flanking, and +1/+1 counters

    • Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa is our Theoden, he doesn't influence the theme as much as Denethor but he has flanking, and a great way for getting all your 2/2 knights through to the face. The white side has lots of overlap with Godor (suprise, suprise) and on the green side I went with lots of training and/or generic +1/+1 counter effects. I see this as all the non-combatants suiting up to defend themselves at the Battle for helms deep, getting training from the more experienced Riders of Rohan
    • I thought Saffi Eriksdotter made for a pretty thematic Eowyn as well.
    • some of my favourites here are ambitious farmhand, rural recruit, call the cavalry, overcome, and my personal favorite Dusk // Dawn (synergy with Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa's ability, and also "Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east.")
  • ug - Rivendell - elf tribal, +1/+1 counters, and evasion

    • gonna be honest I think this is the weakest thematically but I couldn't think of something better. Edric, Spymaster of Trest is Elrond and his abilities don't really make sense but hey this is hard, he kind of looks like him so I went with it. We have some evasive creatures to pay off his ability, and then a weird combo of elf tribal + pumping up evasive creatures
    • oh also a lot of card draw cause I see that as being wise and all that ¯_(ツ)_/¯
    • besides the fact that there are lots of elves there arent a ton of really thematic cards. I do however really enjoy how Aerial formation both works with the theme, and really give me the image of how they portray elves fighting in the movies, jumping over shield walls and all kinds of crazy
  • bg - Mirkwood - Elf tribal, graveyard recursion

    • wowow big surprise, elf ball with recursion, who woulda guessed. Here we have the surprisingly underwhelming (card power wise) Harald, King of Skemfar as our Thranduil
    • besides that its just elves, not a whole lot to say here. I see the graveyard recursion more as them being immortal and not dying easily, as apposed to them actually dying or getting sacrificed y'know?
    • Rhys the Exiled is Legolas, again his abilities don't make a ton of sense but hey, he spends most of the LOTR films away from the Mirkwood, almost gets exiled in the hobbit, and the card art is holding a bow. Calling it a win
    • we also have a few mirkwood creepy crawlies in this color combo, like deathbloom thalid and drider
