Ice Age Battlebox:

This is a MTG Battlebox containing 180 cards from the original Ice Age block, including Ice Age, Homelands and Alliances. It is intended to be played as a 1v1 format.

Rules:

Each player uses all cards of the Battlebox as their library. Each player also receives a set of 11 lands which are placed in a separate zone and can be played as usual (i.e. 1 land each turn). These lands are:

  • 2 Snow-Covered Island
  • 2 Snow-Covered Swamp
  • 2 Snow-Covered Mountain
  • 2 Snow-Covered Forest
  • 2 Snow-Covered Plains
  • 1 School of the Unseen

Each player starts a game by drawing 4 cards from their library with no mulligans. The maximum hand size during a game is 7 cards.

Alternative setup (for increased player agency): Start by drawing 7 cards, and put 3 face down in a joint discard pile. When drawing a card at the beginning of turn, instead look at top 3, take one, and put the others face down in the same joint discard pile. If the shared library is empty, shuffle the joint discard pule and it becomes the new library.

Further information:

  • There are no lands in the Battlebox beside 4 utility lands which require sacrificing an own land, meaning that a player cannot have more lands than another player
  • No land destruction
  • No tutors
  • No ramp

Colour Identities:
W: Flyers, protection & removal
U: Flyers & counterspell
B: Sacrifice & removal
R: Haste & burn
G: Big creatures & pump
WU: Flyers, Auras & Interaction (tempo)
UB: Counterspell & Removal (control)
BR: Sacrifice (midrange)
RG: Stompy (aggro)
GW: Go-Wide (aggro)

!Note that due to the set availability of lands, each player will be able to cast all spells and hence, play with a mix of spells from all colours!

Removal of some cards that have felt a bit weird or overpowered.

Instead including some cards that are a bit more aggressive.
