Taking inspiration first from Ryan Overturf’s design concept, and as well from the concept of Supreme Draft, the Cube is a Twobert, designed for 2-4 player draft environments. Pool has been increased from 180 to 200 cards to simultaneously reinforce archetypes and add variance to the draft experience.

For Supreme Draft - [2 Players - Yield 40 Card Pool]

  • 10 ea. Packs of 10 Cards
  • Separate into [2] Groups of [5] Packs
  • [2] Picks ea. from Your [Group 1] Packs
  • Swap [Group 1] Packs
  • [2] Picks from Opponents [Group 1] Packs
  • Repeat Process w. [Group 2]

For Supreme Draft - [4 Players - Yield 35 Card Pool]

  • 5 ea. Packs of 10 Cards
  • [2] Picks from Your Packs
  • Randomly Redistribute Packs
  • [2] Picks from New Packs
  • Pass New Packs to Left
  • [3] Picks from Passed Packs

For [4 Players] Set Draft Parameters to [5] Packs ea. of [10] cards. Draft entire cube alternating L-R/Pack

For [2 Players], refer to so-called Minneapolis Draft, see below per Overturf:

“Minneapolis Draft is a two-player draft format where both players make eight packs of seven cards. Each player starts by simultaneously opening their first pack without showing the contents to the other player, drafting one card face down, and then trading their first pack with the other player. Then each player takes two cards from the other player’s pack and trades back. Finally, players take an additional two cards from the pack they had opened and the last two cards in each pack are discarded face-down from the draft. To reiterate, that’s one first pick, two picks from the other player’s pack, and then two last cards from the pack you opened before discarding the remaining two cards from the draft. Players continue this process until all eight of their packs have been drafted. From here players add any number of basic lands to their deck and play some 40-card Limited Magic.”

CONDITIONS

Legacy Card Pool. No Ban List. Personal preference eschews Commander-specific cards and mechanics.

Consistent and powerful decks can be built to embrace a variety of both distinct and overlapping strategies, whether in Draft or Sealed environments.

Foundation of the Cube Environment is riffing on the Tempo Twobert concept, wherein each color has some amount of Spells Matter synergy. Depending on colors drafted, this could mean triggering Prowess, adding +1/+1 Counters, enabling Graveyard synergies, etc.

In this Cube traditional color identities, their historically attendant spell focus and abilities, and resulting synergies are built on this overarching thematic concept: I want my drafters to be able to sculpt powerful, low to the ground decks that produce interactive and dynamic play patterns, Magic the way Garfield intended, spiced with the odd card that breaks the color pie, etc..

Snow Basics are provided for the land base [i.e. do not require Draft Picks].

In paper, the Cube is built as here detailed: rife with alternate art, original cards, promotional editions, rare printings, and foils. I hope to foster feelings of wonder, surprise, and delight for folks as they are cracking these packs.
