Our playgroup is compromised usually of about 2-4 players so me and my partner went with a card pool of 270 cards. This lets us have a more concentrated card pool while still allowing for more randomisation between games than 180 card cubes.
The goal of the cube is clean but powerful magic. The usual cube descriptions about decision rich, interactive drafting and gameplay experience applies here.
We went for simple to understand cards. That means no questing beasts or mechanics like monarch, initiative, tempt, etc. This both reduces cognitive load during games and makes packs far easier to parse.
We also made the descision to only use cards printed in to standard. Not only is it a headache to try and keep up with all the new supplemental products that WOTC create but also we dislike the absurd power level in the horizons and commander products.
