Thoughts:

  • As with the last few drafts of this cube, players reported having a lot of fun and satisfaction playing with these cards.
  • Among the combos that worked particularly well this evening: Channel + Rolling Thunder; Treachery + Armageddon.
  • I think the cube is in a good place, given that the mono-red deck came out on top, despite the inclusion of several new control cards.

Thoughts:

  • Many players found the draft difficult, but everyone seemed to have a great time. In the end, I think my goal was achieved: everyone managed to build a nostalgic deck with a little wibe of "bricolage".
  • There were a lot of goblins wheeling around the table and no one attempted to build this deck. Perhaps this was due to a fear of embarking on this path early in the draft.
  • It would have been preferable to have only english cards.
  • I'm pleased to see that 1) nobody ended up winning 3-0, 2) very control-focused decks and very aggressive decks seem to have both performed well.
  • Some great combos put together that evening that I can remember: Winter Orb + Mishra's Helix, Trade Routes + Seismic Assault.
  • My personal MVP: I wouldn't have thought of playing Mobilization in a control deck, but this card worked wonders for me. Being able to save my mana to counter my opponent's spells, while ending the turn by creating up to 5 soldiers at OP's end-step felt great.
