I disabled the Automatic Post when fiddling with a different project, forgot, and now feel the need to recreate what would have been posted. I dropped Matter Reshaper because I overlooked that it requires colorless to cast. Otherwise it would be a terrific include. For the time being Golos, Tireless Pilgrim is back in. Likewise, I continued to shuffle the Golgari non-planeswalker card. Gloomshrieker is out, and Skullbriar, the Walking Grave is in. I think he hits the power-level better but I worry he might be a bit of a trap. Edit: he is definitely a trap, and is now out in favor of Deathrite Shaman. I'm not sure the shaman really does enough in the cube, but he is generically strong and certainly playable.
The series of posts preceding represent where I landed on the update aimed towards improving aggro and taking out Oko.
All colors received some additional 1-2 mana value creatures, with a spread of creatures in the Goblin Guide family -- that is, overpowered for the cost because of a substantial downside. Goblin Guide and Isamaru, (a vanilla 1 mana 2/2) are the benchmarks. If any of the cards are worse than Isamaru they probably are not strong enough.
The other changes were primarily in the planeswalker cycle:
Oko, Thief of Crowns was the clear power outlier in the cube, and the new Tamiyo represents a reasonable replacement on fun. I'm just not in love with the other Simic planeswalkers in this environment -- it would have been bringing the power level down to around Selesnya in the planeswalker cycle (sorry, Ajani, the Greathearted).
I swapped Liliana, Dreadhorde General out for Liliana of the Veil and Kaito Shizuki out in favor of Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. Both represent an increase in oppressiveness, with a decreased emphasis on tokens.
Vraska, Golgari Queen for Grist, The Hunger Tide. I don't feel excited to play Vraska, and she doesn't really have any intrinsic synergy with the cube themes -- possibly making her the worst planeswalker in the cube. Grist does more and is a more exciting draft pick. I may have to seek for some more insects to include.
The last planeswalker change was to take out Ral, Storm Conduit in favor of The Royal Scions. I'm not sure how strongly I want to push Izzet-spellslinger, as those cards have some intrinsic parasitism. Ral is a signal that the archetype is strongly supported, whereas the Scions signal that there shall be aggro -- which is a general theme I am currently promotoing.
