I like that she cares about just any token.
Sweet combo with Animation Module that doesn't go quite infinite but is a nice dream.
She is a nice token lord and could also read All your token creatures enter with a +1/+1 counter
.
I'm not happy that it is a card from the LOTR set. Atleast the character is not very well known.
Cut
The Bygone Bishop feels outclassed by Oltec Matterweaver.
Cutting a investigate card is a bit sad but I don't feel that is part of the Academy Manufactor deck anyway.
I love this unique effect of generating mana when you sacrifice any artifact. Looking especially great with the current support for Treasure tokens in the cube.
This should create some explosive and splashy turns.
A little +1/+1 counter payoff that lets you go wide.
Acts as a self-contained manasink as long as you have a creature with a +1/+1 counter on the field.
Cuts
Goblin Welder got the boot over the Goblin Engineer because there currently are no longer any attractive high cmc artifact creatures. Mindslaver is also gone for now.
Contagion Clasp is all around awesome but with Necroskitter and the -1/-1 counter micro archetype gone it feels a little less relevant.
Maybe there is an archetype somewhere with:
To capitalize to the fullest you would want a high density of the following effects in your final deck:
See the Buildaround cube for a Wilderness Reclamation support.
Here is a nice thread on Untap based ramp
Some sweet payoffs:
No time for text, vacation is calling :)
Artifacts might be oversupported with payoffs now.
Can create an early 4/4 beater in aggro decks, similar to The Blackstaff of Waterdeep.
Is an awesome payoff when you have many artifact (tokens).
Invokes great deck construction ideas when seen early in a draft.
Is a scaleble manasink that plays extremly well with madness and as a finisher for Sphinx's Tutelage.
Should be a fine replacement for s topend curve.
See also on riptidelab.
Feels like a badass finisher. The alternative cost is evocative.
More lifegain is added to the cube to offset the lifeloss.
Pretty strong target for Polymorph or reanimation.
Danger of many big feelbad moments when facing off against bounce spells since it has not ETB.
Casting it at cmc will be super hard as well.
See my Ponderings on the Manufactor.
Not as powerful as Midnight Reaper but cheaper, a human and mainly here for Academy Manufactor support.
Nice little Combo package.
Witch's Oven is a colorless sacrifice outlet. It can be found with Artificer's Intuition.
Scavenger's Talent has so many synergies. Great at producing food, extends the Sphinx's Tutelage mill deck into /
, is a reanimator similar to a flashback Dread Return and incremental mana sink.
Ministrant of Obligation was here especially to support Teysa Karlov. Let's see if she is still viable and more incidental support gets included.
Venser, Shaper Savant is generically good, and especially in a flicker deck. Maybe bring him back when we push /
blink.
Meloku the Clouded Mirror might enable some cool landfall combos, but usually ends the game on the spot by creating 5 or more fliers.
Archfiend of Spite never seen it cast for it's Madness Cost which is still high at cmc. Also the art feels kind of uninspired.
While Mindslaver looks super cool with Tinker it never really happened and probably needs the loop with Academy Ruins.
The Necroskitter dream is cool, but there is by far not enough incidental support for -1/-1 counters to make it happen.
The cost on Isareth the Awakener makes her a bit akward and she is very wordy. This lead to her cut over Victimize.
Malcolm is also a nice madness enabler in and provides some pressure in the air, just like Aladin did.
The upside on Malcolm is really high and exciting to chase.
Bonus points if you can proliferate his counters, e.g. with Grateful Apparition.
What if we could play this for free? 🤔
Wouldn't this be an awesome deck?
This would be similar to the Cruel Ultimatum deck some cubes support.
Maybe some Hideaway
with Shelldock Isle?
Going deep: Living Lore, Galvanoth, Jhoira of the Githu, Dream Halls ($$$), Efreet Flamepainter,Ignite the Future
The cool thing about Unite the Coalition is that it is a big 5 colour payoff.
The uncool thing is that 10 damage to the dome is probably going to end most games on the spot.
2/2
with Haste
and buffing all your creatures with at least +1/+0
in the early turns? Count me in.
The card is generically good in aggro decks, and is especially good with the landfall portion of
.
Also a great token lord.
While lacking the evasion of Fearless Fledgeling it has better value when drawn later in the game due to it's bestow.
The Fledgeling art is awesome so he might come back if the Elemental is too powerful.
Cut
Countryside Crusher has a interesting and unique effect.
You can run him in aggro to ensure you keep on drawing only gas.
Yet he turns off all landfall for /
and the
cost is not optimal.
Currently there are no huge combos in the cube except for Zuran Orb.
Is probably going to be a powerhouse for early pressure.
Prowess
also profits from stormy artifact turns.
The Valiant
ability is a nice add on for the /
deck to keep the cards flowing while you're pumping the Challenger with e.g. Reckless Charge or Brute Force.
Cut
I liked that Magmatic Channeler was a Discard outlet for madness decks.
Yet there seems to be some tension as the madness decks want to pressure very early and be really explosive.
The Channeler comes online only rather late and the Madness decks probably can't get instants and sorcieres into the yard early on.
Straight upgrade over the Zulaport Cutthroat.
🤩 Triggers also on artifacts
🤩 Fabricate > brings her own little artifact buddy
🤩 At 2
cmc comes down way earlier than Marionette Master which is relevant for the /
artifact sac deck
😐 No lifegain, harder to stabilize for Control decks
Another great card for the 1cmc artifacts matter.
Functionally almost a duplicate to Flayer Husk.
🤩 Carries +1/+1 counters like a champ due to evasion
🤩 Grants lategame evasion in Aggro decks
🤩 Can be recurred by Salvaging Station and creates a loop with a sac outlet.
👎 With only 1
power does not create too much pressure in early game
Cuts
I've never seen the ability of Dauntless Bodyguard actually matter in any game. Theoretically I like it very much for the stubborn aspect of /
.
I fear that this card is too powerful.
With it's ETB
it can machine gun down the opponents board and the opponent himself with
Especially the Goblin Engineer might make the opponent feel too bad with the tutor and recursion loop.
Also it makes my Pyrite Spellbomb look bad. 😟
But the second ability is what makes we want to run the Extruder in the first place!
Turn your artifacts into a 3/3
Golem 🤩
Maybe this can be the start of a wonderful 5 Color Golem tribal deck? 😁
Cut
I'm not happy to cut Shrapnel Blast and we might see a comeback soon if the Extruder is too oppressive.
The 5
damage is really chunky and a great option for to close out a game.
Incidental artifacts should be available in any deck, even those not focused on artifact synergy.
I feel that Instants
and Sorcery
is already underrepresented in the cube (e.g. for Arcane Bombardment).
So I'm hesitant to cut an Instant
for another Artifact
.
The justification is that Shrapnel Blast does not work with Arcane Bombardment unless you have spare artifacts.
This rounds off my creatures leave the graveyard
deck with:
2-card combo with Tortured Existence.
Loves the recursive creatures in (e.g. Reassembling Skeleton or the aggressive Bloodsoaked Champion variants)
Great with all the artifact creature recurison in and
.
It also acts as a mini Cryptolith Rite for tokens.
After 3 triggers you definitly got your worth for :
Triggers | Payoff |
---|---|
1 | 1/2 |
2 | 1/2 +2/3 |
3 | 1/2 +2/3 +3/4 |
See also this post on why this card is great.
Cut
Deathrite Shaman is a great value card but not an exciting synergy signpost.
Insidious Roots is probably going to create more memorable decks for my drafters.
Finally a Phyrexian Altar variant that I can afford 😅
Instant speed, virtually unlimited sac outlet that produces an artifact and ramps you. You can even store the mana between phases.
The huge 3/3
body is unnecessary imo and smells of power creep. I would have prefered it at 2/2
or even 1/1
.
This is gonna be a staple, MH3 is awesome for cube.
Pawn of Ulamog got an upgrade and is now in Skittering Precursor 😜
🤩 Artifact synergy and also subtle artifact hate if your opponent has lots of artifact tokens / sacrifices
🤩 Option to outgrow opponents creatures if needed
🤩 Artifact sac outlet
🤩 Awesome art
🤩 More keywords for Soulflayer
😐 3/3 body with haste is pretty beefy in this cube
👎 Suggests to drafters that a Goblin theme is present (which it is not)
Krenko gets the benefit of the doubt to see if he plays well.
Rabblemaster is a sign-post aggro card. I think Krenko does a pretty good impression especially due to
Haste
.
It is not really synergistic with any archetype. With Goblin Bombardment gone, even the steady stream of Goblin fodder is not very relevant anymore.
The Landscape
cycle is probably the greatest gift of MH3 for this cube. 🤩
Mechanically they cover same space as a fetchland + shocklands cycle (but in a single card! 🥳)
You can play them and use them in the same turn for aggro decks with the small downside of the landscapes producing only .
The sacrifice trigger really gives legs to the sacrificial lands archteype.
The fact that they tutor for 3 colors improves fixing for 3 color decks or an easy splash in a 2 color deck - which is awesome for (greedy) control decks.
And to top it all of you can actually cycle these if you have the colors available - awesome for discard matters 🤯
Cuts
The Painlands did great work and the fact that you no longer have to pay life for your fixing is a small buff to Control decks.
Cut in section was hard.
The bounclands should stay for the sake of the Retreat to Coralhelm + Sakura-Tribe Scout combo.
Kitchen Finks is a much needed (temporary] roadblock for aggressive decks.
had only 4 cards (instead of 5) and I assume the additional offender is a 3 colored card.
Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter is not needed as much anymore with the upcoming strengthening of the artifact sacrifice archetype by a bunch of MH3 cards.
While Stirring Wildwood makes the land tutors Knight of the Reliquary and especially Crop Rotation more viable the manlands are moved to the "neutral" land slots:
More Adds
These are cheap manlands in and attractive for aggro decks as an additional beater and nice targets for the land tutors.
Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds are less needed as landfall support now that the landscapes are here.
is the exciting build-around to encourage drafters to go for the sacrificial lands deck.
Her presence also justifies the inclusion of Zuran Orb in the cube as a 2-card combo. 😉
There are some incidental triggers for her (e.g. Crop Rotation & Harrow) and some reocurring triggers (e.g. Knight of the Reliquary).
Noteably this cube is not running fetchlands which pair super well with her.
As a remedy for that I plan to switch the manabase to the MH3 Landscape cycle.
is a 2-in-1 replacement for World Shaper and Satyr Wayfinder. 🤩
With some mill or sacrificed lands the Analyst will create hugh Landfall
turns.
While the Satyr draws a land and mills 3 in the best case, the Analyst has a relevant body for early blocks.
World Shaper always felt clunky with its high cmc and the need for an additional sac outlet to trigger it reliably.
is a payoff in for all sacrifice shenanigans (be it creatures, artifacts or lands).
The Precursor grants you more bodies (i.e. blockers in control shells), sacrifice triggers and ramp.
With 3/3 it also has a beefy body in this cube to attack in aggro shells.
Goblin Bombardment gets the boot as I feel it might be too strong and can create feel bad moments for the opponent. It sometimes acts as a repeatable onboard wrath that doesn't immediatly close out the game and has you suffer through it.
An archetype that rewards you for sacrificing your own lands (and then recurring) them. Probably anchored in .
Main benefit is to generate a massive amount of landfall triggers (via Aftermath Analyst|Second Sunrise) and a large number (e.g. >=5) of sacrifice permanent
triggers (e.g. Mayhem Devil|Skittering Precursor|Aetherworks Marvel).
Maybe it is possible with the currnent card pool to enable this deck without it being too parasitic.
See the discussion of this archetype on riptidelab.
Support already in the cubeLands that sacrifice themselves (e.g. Evolving Wilds|Terramorphic Expanse|Fetchlands|Bountiful Landscape cycle)
Heavy crosspollination with the Landfall
archetypes in .
