Mainboard Changelist+58, -58

Large update ~50 new card enters the cube. All changes are made to improve the core goal of this cube:

  • Maximize the number of viable unique deck-types you can play, making each draft a new experience. Each color should have 5+ viable archetypes.
  • Push for cool games of magic. Remove cards which ruins that.
  • Cut cards which are underperforming, especially if they are underperforming in a good deck for them.
  • Cut cards which no one picks or plays.

This update in particular is also doing 3 things:

  • Slightly increasing creature count in decks, leading to more creature-combat oriented decks.
  • Increasing % of artifacts in cube.
  • Increasing % of lands in cube.

Finally, this update also comes with a new rule; a hard cap of 50 draft synergy cards. This means the asfan is 1.5, meaning you'll see 1-2 draft synergy cards per pack. I think that is a good amount.

Lands
  • 6 surveil lands added to cube (like Undercity Sewers)
  • 4 green surveil lands added as draft synergies.
  • % lands in cube slightly increased, due to having draft synergies adding 2-4 playable spells per deck. Better manabases is fun.
Artifacts Green
  • Green is losing artifact ramp, which the green decks rarely wanted anyway. Instead green is getting better domain mana through draft synergies (improving domain and lands archetypes with cards like Commercial district).
  • Green is getting a much stronger aggressive game with a light +1/+1 counter theme. This will make it better with both white (green white aggro/midrange) and red (domain/big red-green). Ex: Bristly Bill, Spine Sower & Ornery Tumblewagg.
  • Some multi-colored slow cards replaced with better aggressive payoffs, such as Arwen, mortal queen and Glissa Sunslayer.
  • Some clunkier cards cut for speed (Elvish Spirit Guide)
Blue Red White
  • Slight improvement to white control decks.
  • Cut the worst white aggro for newer better cards.
Black¨
  • Cut the worst black removals for newer better cards.

Draft Synergy Changes

New: Max cap of 50 draft synergy cards (average 1-2 per pack).

Drafting Elemental Eruption (new card) gives + Desperate Ritual

Drafting Tribal Flames gives + Commercial District

Drafting Scion of Draco gives + Hedge Maze

Drafting Green sun's zenith gives + Dryad Arbor

Drafting Knight of the reliquary gives + Lush Portico

Drafting Displacer Kitten gives + Urza's Bauble

Drafting Elvish Reclaimer gives + Underground Mortuary

Drafting Elspeth, Sun's Champion gives + Day of Judgement
