I am so excited to have new un-cards to look at. Let’s get started.
*Apparently Cube Cobra has not added the spoiled un-cards to it's database. You can see them here: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/unfinity-spoilers-november-29-eternal-legal-cards
Killer Cosplay is a gross card! For 4 mana you can turn your creature into any other creature that shares it’s cmc. However, we have already encountered another version of the card in
Richard Garfield, Ph.D. and I can tell you the card is wildly unfun if it appears every draft. The big difference here is variance. In cube,
Killer Cosplay will show up nearly every draft vs. Retail Limited where it might not show up in 2-3 boxes worth of draft. Let’s play a game, what is the best 3 drop you can think to turn this card into?
What about:
You see, the thing is new players get pummeled by the card because they can’t think of enough cards to take advantage of it. As a result, they pass it during draft and it ends up in the hands of experienced players, who use it to smite all their opponents as they are constantly playing the best creatures in magic and artifact removal is hard to come by in this environment. Experienced players don’t have a bad limited 1 drop, they have a Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer or Phyrexian Dreadnought
I am making it official: Killer Cosplay is banned for power.
First and foremost, this is not a removal spell. This is a pseudo blink spell that gives you 2 copies of your creature, and I am kinda here for that. Using saw in half to dodge removal or to double up on ETB effects is going to be very strong. Sawing something as simple as a
Big Boa Constrictor would be 3 drain effects. We are talking extremely powerful if you
Saw in Half something like
Steady Handed Mook and get to assemble 3 contraptions. We will probably playtest this card, I can see it being a blast to play. I can also see it being too good.
There will be big shake-ups to this cube when Unfinity comes out, so nothing is set in stone. However, I like
Assembled Ensemble. It plays well with the artifact theme already in white. Furthermore, It we get enough playable robots, well then, we could have a decent sub-theme going at very little design space cost. Unfortunately, right now we have….0 robots, so all the support has to come from Unifinity. Still, I am hopeful.
Yes, just yes!. This card is everything we want. The only thing that could make it better is if it was a rigger. The fact that it is a goblin, that is not a rigger hints to me that contraptions are not coming back. Still, this is a great guidepost card, it looks good with
Ol' Buzzbark. Furthermore, our dice rolling deck needs all the help we can get it. I am really excited about this one.
